neptune
Alright so I'm really picky about my gold. I'm planning on going Custodes because I like their look, their fluff, and their stats ain't too shabby (albeit ridiculously expensive points-wise). Anyway, I'm very specific to the shade of gold I'm wanting. NOT honey gold, or chestnut gold, or aged gold, or yellow gold, NO! Just a plain-Jane gold that contrasts well against black (I'm painting 30k-era Dankanatoi). So to give an idea what sort of gold I'm planning on, here's a few examples...Something kinda likes this:https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/warhammer40k/images/2/29/IF_Vet_Assault_Termi.jpg/revision/latest?cb=201411234829 https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Eowyn/-and-Merry-2019 = specifically the gold trim along Eowyn's helmet https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Warriors-Of-The-Last-Alliance-2018 = specifically the gold of the elves' scale-mail so which colors of Citadel paints do I need? Dr_Ruminahui
I've been facing a similar question - I used to use Griffon Gold as a base paint (its a drybrush) until they changed its consistency such that it is all crumbly (good for drybrushing, bad for everything else. Since then I've been trying various replacements: Tamiya's Gold Leaf (paint X-12) is a similar colour but much brighter. With my knight, Gold Leaf would be too bright, so I've tried something else. I base it in Retributor Armour, then paint it in Auric Armour Gold, and then dry brush it Griffon. It's a bunch of work, and I'm uncertain how it would work on smaller projects, but at least its gotten me the colour I'm looking for. Here's how it looks: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/356975-which-shade-of-gold-for-30k-era-dankanatoi-custodes/#findComment-5342116 Share on other sites
Arkhanist
Have a look at Vallejo metal color gold - it's my go-to for that paler 'real gold' look Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/356975-which-shade-of-gold-for-30k-era-dankanatoi-custodes/#findComment-5342290 Share on other sites
Jukkiz
If you´re looking real shiny gold, Revell makes good one, golden colour number 76 (in tiny, metal cans)just be careful with brushes, tends to stick on bristles.
