Filius
First Pack, first BloodAfter many years, many diversions, many thoughts and many many Euros in unbuild and unpainted minis … I finally managed to get something, anything done. http://dark-and.grim.rocks/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2019/07/isbrands-stoneborn-teaser.jpg This ist my Kill Team, called Isbrands Stoneborn. It’s quite obvious that I tend towards the 2nd Edition Colour Scheme, with lots of bright and warm Colours, esp. yellow and red. I added warm brown tones for everything leathery and a warm sandy tone for everything made of cloths. As they are associated with stones, their Chest decorations are also in a stone like colour (and not the usual gold). The Stoneborn are a Lost Company in M40.999 and are the predecessor of the Stormwolves, and so they also wear the Stormwolf as their Icon. Actually I plan on adding Bjorn Stormwolf as a Character later on, but before he became Wolf Lord. Right now the Stoneborn are a mixed Kill Team. And as Isbrand, their Leader ist still a Blood Claw that whole Pack wears yellow and red as Packmarkings. As you can easily see the Pack consists of two Wolves of every Unit Type currently available in the Kill Team Core Manual. http://dark-and.grim.rocks/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2019/07/isbrands-stoneborn-02.jpg Left to right: Marcus, Wolf Priest Apprentice and Medic Specialis; Isbrand, Leader of the Pack. Isbrand the Leader of the Pack, will later become the Wolf Lord of the Stoneborn Great Company. He’s a Pre-Primaris Marine and now for his humor. He wears one of Spell Crows “Space Knights heads with long hair” and his bolt pistol has a Kromlech Thundergun suppressor MK 1. Marcus is his second in command and the Medic Specialist of the Team. He’s a Wolf Priest apprentice, which is also the reason why he doens’t wear a wolf priest black armour. He’s got the Torso, Backpack and Narthecium of a common Apothecary. I consider the Reavers Helmets ridiculous on the Reavers, but for a Wolf Pries apprentice, it fits just perfect. http://dark-and.grim.rocks/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2019/07/isbrands-stoneborn-03.jpg Huron Nightwolf, and Jangorn Whitepelt – Wolfscouts loyal to Isbrand Huron Nightwolf wears a special Scout Mask that a martian Tech Priest made just for him. The Head is of course that of a regular Skitarii Ranger. On his back, he carries a shield of the Ironbreakers of the Dispossessed . Jangorns has the arm of a Chaos Marauder (following the Classic Wolf Scouts Tutorial of the Spacewolvesgrey-Blog) and another Spellcrow Head, this time “Space Knights with Beards”. http://dark-and.grim.rocks/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2019/07/isbrands-stoneborn-04.jpg Jorge Thunderstep and Jantun Iceberg I still really don’t like how the Primaris Marines were introduced into the setting – taller, faster, bigger, better, with less flaws, with no flaws at all, without a dark secret or just anything to make them fit into the setting, fit among the other Astartes. So I tend to consider all my Primaris to be Jotunn, Frost Giants (as Brother Gemini suggested) – they all get pale skin and white-blue hair. This is the least I can do, to set them apart. Having said that: The Minis are just great. I added a Wildwood Rangers Blade to Jorge as well as a small Wolftail-Totem. And Jatun obviously got a Standard Space Wolves Head. I was courious how wolfy they look with just some minor kitbashing. They both are from the Easy to Build Intercessors Set. http://dark-and.grim.rocks/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2019/07/isbrands-stoneborn-05.jpg Lars Stoneshield and Kjielf Darkheart – Isbrands Reivers I did buy the Kill Team Space Wolves Starter Box, so I got Reivers Primaris too. Their Armour and the Winged Backpacks look just aweseome, some of the best Minis among the Astartes. But the Reivers Hemlets are just ridiculous. So I replaced them. Kjielf has a classic Space Wolves Wolf-Helmet and Lars has … (I do have to smile about that) … a Dark Angels Veterans Hooded Helmet. I really like how that one came out and I think, that I’ll be using them more often within my force. summa spacewolfum I primed them all white, in hope of getting a lighter Grey for the main armour. I used all the basic Base Colours, Washes and Layers suggested by Games Workshop, and I am pretty happy with the results. Esp. the Reivers have a great armour and the many pouches add a great second colour. For the yellows I just stick to Averland Sunset and Washes of Cassandora Yellow and Fuegan Orange, no other Highlights or layers, and I really like how strong it turned out. The Bases will get some more love, but I can't decide between flowers and snow … When I got into Kill Team, I decided to just have two of each Unit Type for the Start. As it turned out, my Minis have so complete wrong Loadout regarding Weapons, so I will have to do some more Marines for Kill Team. Especially more with Flamethrowers. On the other Hand … I still have enough unbuild Minis to start with a regular Squad of Blood Claws or Grey Hunters … Edited July 14, 2019 by Filius DaveyBoy74, Kassill, HvitrValdyr and 14 others 17 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357142-isbrands-stoneborn/ Share on other sites
RikuEru
Magnificent! A great example of a mixed force of Space Wolves adjusted to their Wolf Lord's (= your) likings. These wouldn't fit into MY collection, but I am amazed at the detail you put into them and the way you made this mixture of old and new model conversions into one cohesive "old school" looking Space Wolf Force. Kudos to you, brother! Bjorn Firewalker
I see you're a skilled modeler and painter who put a lot of effort in his Wolves, but why the Dark Angels-style hoods on Huron and Jorge? It just a matter of personal taste. I don't like the regular Reivers heads (there's already a class of guys, who have the privilege to wear skeleton helmets). So I tried several other options I had at hand, but all of them had some disadvantages: The regular Space Marine Helmet don't fit to the mondern Reivers Armour, imho. And some Space Wolves Heads without helmets didn't look sneaky enough (esp. as I don't want to give bearded heads to Primaris to make them look younger). The Hooded Dark Angels Heads are a bit sneaky, and as most of the head is covered by the hood, the oldschool helmet doesn't break too much with the modern Reivers style. But as a hood above a helmet really is a quite stupid thing I keep looking for alternatives … any hints or ideas a very welcome! P.S.: And thank you so much for the kind words! Filius
Love the colors! You’ll have to update us on their deeds, trying to get my group running for killteam atm. Right! Totally forgot about that: Isbrands Stoneborn already have spilled their first blood. They took out a scavanging Warband of the (Dark) Mechanicus in the close confines of subterranean powerplant, taking out 8 of the Skitarii, while haveing only one injured. Most noteably were Marcus (who's a Tactical Marine Gunner), who took out 4 Skitarii with his Flamer, and Isbrand, who desintegrated the Skitarii Leader with his Plasma Pistol. Ah! Good Point … I could try some of Puppetwars "Arctic Troopers Heads". (I've been looking for an excuse to order a few things there for quiet a while, hehe.) Thanks! P.S.: And their Cossacks Heads have a nice mad touch, that seem fitting for Reivers. I think I'll give them a try, too. He will get a bit more work, maybe replacing the thing on his necklace with something wolfy. And now that I see the wolf tail on his helmet on a photograph, I think, I will put some more work into that too. I wanted it to resemble one of the classic wolf guard minis … let's see if I can get closer to that. Filius
After a rough year with the hobby (and myself) I have found my way back to the painting table and my space wolves. And thanks to homeoffice and my new painting desk by the window I did some early morning painting yesterday, with the sun still low.All of them are still work in progess, mostly only the base colours are applied and skeleton horde contrast for the boneish parts. http://dark-and.grim.rocks/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2021/11/wolves-in-the-shadow-1-scaled.jpg http://dark-and.grim.rocks/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2021/11/wolves-in-the-sun-2-scaled.jpg All of them still work in progress Gods and Primarchs, how much I love the classic space wolves colour scheme of bluegrey and yellow, and some warm brown-tones. And oh, boy, the terminators are such a joy to paint! I really should have started with them earlier.I also have 15 Blood Claws almost done somewhere and a the Wolfpriest from above to babysit them. I need to take photos of them soon. 50 PL points comming together nicely.Ah and … I finnally understood why I love this colour scheme so much: Why Every Movie Looks Sort of Orange and Blue. Sadly the images have been removed from the article. But you can easily google some, hehe …Anyhow … it's so good, running with the wolves again … ah and … I'll be having some 65 PL matches and an all-hobby-weekend with my godson and his White Scars at the end of November … really looking forward to that. Filius
Next addition to my Great Company: William, the young horse. He was still a Blood Claw when he was entombed into a dreadnought. During his times as a Blood Claw, and even before, he loved to run and run and run to outmanoeuvre his enemies, or just for the joy of it. He was the last survivor of a small Strike Force, containing his Pack and the venerable Dreadnough Rulfnir that got ambushed by Tyranids. Even Rulfnir fell. But his wounds were too severe. And as he had a quite close relationship, his Jarl Isbrand decreed that William should be placed in the sarcophagus. Isbrand knew that William would not lose his joy of running, and so he ordered to have a special spear to be made to give him even greater reach. So it's no suprise that William consideres himself still a part of the Blood Claws can be found in the first line of most attacks of the Stoneborne, or at the enemies flanks, which he loves even more. I got two Furioso Dreadnought cheap on ebay and bought the Space Wolves Dreadnought-Set in order to mix and match. He's still very much work in progress and will get a lot more red, as he considers himself still a Blood Claw and will wear their colours with pride. Much to my supirse I found the Wolf Spears Transfer-Sheet in one of the last White Dwarves and will make heavy use of those. P.S.: I used a 2.8mm Brass Tube for the Spear, cut to about 8/9cm. Filius
Isbrands Wolf Guard stands firm in a Training Fight agains House Terryn and the Warhawks of the White Scars. It was 30 Powerlevel Match against my godson. He fielded this knight, and 5 Intercessors, while I came up with 10 Wolf Guard Terminators, and Venerable Dreadnought and a Wolfpriest. 45:5 for me, as I had a easy time jumping to the objectives and binding the Knight in Close Combat … I was surprised how durable Terminators are and how much damage they can deal. He managed to kill 6 Terminators, while I inflicted 18 Wounds on the Knight … RikuEru, Kassill and Rune Priest Jbickb 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357142-isbrands-stoneborn/#findComment-5860670 Share on other sites

Filius
And another Addition to Isbrands Stoneborne: My first Rune Priest with Jump Pack. It was a weekend project with my Godson. He needed a Stormseer for his White Scars and chose Dominion Zephon as a basis, and so I went with the same Mini. It was his idea to give him a staff, which really works nicely, I think. P.S.: After that guy is done, I don't fear adding transfers anymore. It went soo smooth after the first half dozen … :D P.S.: I traded some Sylvaneth Bits with a good friend and plan on placing them on everyone of my Rune Priest, as a reminder, that our Rune Priest do not channel Energy from the Warp, but from the soul of Fenris itself, hehe.
