GreenScorpion
I have been looking into alternatives to get post apocalyptic vehicles, which could fit the style of my goliath truck, because I like the idea of road raging for my renegade army. While exploring some models for 3d printing out of curiosity, I found some interesting designs for both vehicles and terrain. My question would be: what sort of 3d printers would be suitable for the above, if I ended up deciding on investing on printing them on my own? From what I could gather already, resin printers would have better quality but filament printers are typically cheaper. armarnis
filament printer will certainly show the characteristic lines of each layer, especially in those sloped forms. at this point in technological advance i would still tend to say you need both kinds if you wanna make models AND terrain. for terrain a filament printer is absolutely fine but for a good looking model i would want a resin printer Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357163-questions-about-3d-printing-post-apoc-vehicles-and-terrain/#findComment-5347210 Share on other sites
GreenScorpion
Your answer seems to go into what I had read on other forums during my initial research. Do you have recommendations for either type of printers? As you stated, I would likely go with one printer of each type to fit the needs of different items. I saw some 28mm space dwarfs allegedly printed with a Anycubic Photon that seemed decent. Are typical 28mm figures decently reproduced with "budget" resin printers? Would be nice for custom characters. armarnis
the anycubic photon is a very good entry into resinprinting i think, if i had a epic or AT community around, i would have probably already bought one :D my anycubic i3 mega is decent for a filament one i feel but it took me ages to calibrate the building plate and i still have the feeling its not quite right but for 140 eu, i think i did nothing wrong with it :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357163-questions-about-3d-printing-post-apoc-vehicles-and-terrain/#findComment-5347523 Share on other sites
Lord Raven 19
I have heard that using a Filler - Primer is a good way to avoid any layer lines from a filament printer. Fajita Fan
Depends on the model and the shape, the groves at .3mm printing with filler jammed in there will look like stucco on the side of a house if the shape isn’t broad and flat. Some people use acetone on ABS filament to smooth out ridges but ABS plastic reeks. I work in a library with a decent FDM filament printer and I’m not really happy with the look of conversion parts I’ve printed. I’m trying to get us an inexpensive Anycubic Photon so we can try resin printing.
