Requiemnex
Hello All. I recently got the itch to come back to 40k and my friends have been bugging me to come play at the local store. I had moved and most of my 40k stuff sat packed away in some pile in the basement. Recently I went down there to dig through it and separated my piles by armies. To my surprise I found a huge lot of Necron models for some project I had started (back in 5th edition). My original idea i had fell through and with the re-discovery of these models I figured what the heck. I will jump in head first. What I have... Imotekh the StormlordOverlord w/ res orb Cryptek 10x immortals (i dont believe these have been built)40x Warriors5x Lychguard w/ shield and sword/axe 30x Canoptek Scarabs6x Destroyers Unbuilt Annihilation Barge or Command BargeUnbuilt Monolith I am debating picking up that apocalypse spearhead to provide more options. I was wondering what people think of the current collection and if the spearhead is worth it or not. I still have to pick up the Necron book but have been fiddling around in battlescribe. Any-who, any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Excited to meet a new group of folks and inhabit my very own tomb world! Shandathe
The current collection is a good base, and means the Spearhead is definitely worth it for you. Wraiths are quite good, and 6 is a good number to have. If you slap the Shieldvanes on them the Tomb Blades are two Immortals each with +1T, much improved speed, and harder for the enemy to hit. A bargain at a mere 1 point more. You definitely want the Ark (or more than one) as a Ghost Ark is good support for your warriors, or the Doomsday Ark is by far the best firepower the Necrons HAVE. Last but not necessarily least, the plastic Cryptek with the cloak is good for keeping up with the Wraiths (and/or Scarabs) so you can use the Repair Subroutines properly Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357172-new-to-8th-and-necrons/#findComment-5347623 Share on other sites
NTaW
You definitely have a solid core of models there, if the Immortals are indeed unbuilt I would suggest arming them with tesla weapons. One of the Codex's premier options for infantry annihilation is Imotekh using My Will Be Done on two full squads of tesla Immortals, occasionally coupled with the Methodical Destruction stratagem, to make a great use of the tesla rule. I'll echo Shandathe's commentary about the Spearhead box, all the units are great. For me the Ark would absolutely be of the Doomsday variety but Ghost Arks really are a great boon to Warrior blobs. If needed of the Cryptek w. cloak it can also hang back with any vehicles to repair them as well, a popular tactic is to have one babysit a group of DDAs in the backfield of your deployment. Requiemnex
Well, dug the rest of them out. 5 immortals are built with gauss and have been glued. The lychguard are built without arms. could probably do either weapon option.Wondering if i should build the barge as a command or annihilation? recommendations? Getting really excited about this. Stormlord any good anymore? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357172-new-to-8th-and-necrons/#findComment-5348411 Share on other sites
Daimyo-Phaeron Lenoch
There is no reason to ever glue the command deck or the Tesla annihilators to a barge. Both slot into the badge and stay there without need of glue (though the overlord may need a magnet to stay immobile on his base). You can get three different, if exclusive, units from this—Annie barge, CCB, and overlord. I have two and they are amazingly easy models to swap in and out. Build both variants, and I promise you won’t be disappointed. Can’t speak to Imotekh from personal experience but his best use is as a CP battery, from what I understand, which can be done just as easily with a CCB as IIRC his regen power is just a warlord trait, and a CCB is far more survivable and customizable (such as relics, which add to the survivability). He has some good synergies but nothing I’ve personally experienced. If you’ve got Sautekh as your dynasty, though, there’s no real reason not to get him.
