Closet Skeleton
I was thinking about trying to run a small tournament with less of the 'might as well be unbound' meta of out of the box matched play. Thinking of 1500-1750 point range and either ITC or straight out of chapter approved for missions. So I would give one of three options for detachments. 3 Patrols (available to everyone not just drukhari) 1 Battalion or Super heavy detachment + 1 patrol, super heavy auxiliary or auxiliary support detachment 1 Brigade I don't want to completely cut out allies but want to stop CP batteries. So if you want a ton of CP then no allies for you, if you want a ridiculous soup list then you have to give up basically all your CP. House Rules: Hammer of the Emperor: Astra Milatarum super heavy auxiliary detachments grant regiment traits if taken with a battalion of the same regiment. Grand Host of the Reborn: If you have three patrols entirely consisting of Ynnari units start the battle with 3 extra command points. Chain of command: Your warlord must be the highest leadership model in the army. Mysterious allies: Patrol detachments consisting of the following factions may ignore all compulsory slots: Inquisition, Legion of the Damned, Sisters of Silence, Fallen Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357211-tournament-format-advice/ Share on other sites
MARK0SIAN
It sounds good as a format. The only thing that sounds a bit off is the grand host of the reborn. Sounds like just a straight bonus for them over every other faction. No one else is getting that extra CP for 3 patrol detachments and they already have the bonus of using 3 different Ynnari options. Just sounds a bit unfair as they’re not really losing anything that another faction wouldn’t lose by using 3 patrol detachments. I'd offer the same 3CP bonus to anyone who takes 3 patrols from the same faction. Would make it more fair across the board. Closet Skeleton
Ynnari aren't a faction keyword, this is a variant of dark eldar raiding force which is why 3 patrols are an option at all, its a bone to soup players not mono-faction armies. Dark Eldar are getting those CP anyway but yes, it is a straight up bonus for taking 3 not very cost efficient special characters and limiting yourself to the worst eldar stratagem list. Other possibility is specifying it as 1 harlequin, 1 drukhari and 1 asurani all Ynnari but that seems unnecessary when if you only to mix 2 factions you're better off with the battalion and patrol option. MARK0SIAN
It’s your tournament, if you’re happy with it go for it, but any player taking 3 patrol detachments is also limiting themselves considerably and aren’t getting any bonus for it.
