Raven Guard Strategems Idea

Recommended Posts

I came up with a few Strategems for Raven Guard that I'm going to playtest and submit to GW as part of a suggestion for a supplement for them. Wanted to get some feedback on how they sound on paper.

1) Strike from the Sky (or something similar) 2CP

Choose a <RAVEN GUARD> unit that arrived from reserve this turn. That unit may roll 3d6 to charge instead of 2.

(patterned this after the Blood Angels Forlorn Fury Strategem. Only instead of being jump pack specific it requires the unit to have arrived from reserve the same turn).

2) Decapitation Strike 1CP.

Choose a <RAVEN GUARD> unit. That unit gets +1 to wound rolls when targeting enemy characters this turn.

Pretty self explanatory. The Raven Guard often strike at enemy leadership first to throw them into disarray during the battle.

3) Fade into the Shadows 1CP

Choose a <RAVEN GUARD> unit that fell back this turn. Until your next turn enemy units that target them receive a -1 penalty to hit them. Additionally, when the chosen unit fires overwatch they hit on results of 5 and 6.

A flavorful addition that represents the Raven Guard's penchant for hit and run attacks.

What do you think?

I like them all.

One change I might consider would be to Decapitation Strike, or maybe just a different stratagem altogether: Allow Raven Guard units (perhaps limit it to just those with the infantry keyword?) to target characters with fewer than 10 wounds for the duration of their shooting phase, regardless of whether they are the closest unit or not. Maybe make it -1 to hits.

Strike from the Sky sounds like it would be great for Vanguard Veterans. Still haven't gotten any since my recent post asking about them, but it would definitely make them more threatening.

The change you suggested to Decapitation Strike would make it way too strong.

Imagine a 6 man unit of Aggressors that can freely target characters. That's a minimum of 84 shots.

This is true... I only run a three-man Agressor squad in my army currently, so I forget how much potential for derp there is out there.
