Stalker is cheap, I note 2) Does the vehicle he's in just not degrade its BS? Or do you start at 2+ instead of 3+? Stickeh Posted July 31, 2019 Share Posted July 31, 2019 Frankly none of the space marine vehicles are super good right now thanks to the lack of chapter tactics and the fact that if so much as a grots toe touches them then they can’t shoot next turn. A predator or land raider variant would be the best choice, but neither on their own is worth taking just for that. As for point 2, yes the wording of ‘Tank Commander’ means that his BS does not degrade with the vehicle, and so a predator on 1 wound would still be hitting on 2+, other modifiers not withstanding. Captain Idaho Posted July 31, 2019 Share Posted July 31, 2019 A Land Raider with Chronus could be horrific to face. 4 Lascannons hitting on 2s, 3s against flyers, is going to put hurt on folk and Crusaders are scary. Not game breaking but interesting. Maybe with Tigurius to give a -1 to hit and a Techmarine so it fixes D3+1 wounds a turn might be a nice trick. It sounds nice but in real terms for 9 more points you can bring two Contemptor Mortis dreads. This has more wounds, an invuln, twice as many shots still hitting on 2+ and the benefit of chapter tactics, which for ultras is excellent on a shooty dread. Granted you lose the transport capacity of the land raider, the ability to move and shoot without -1 to hit, and one point of toughness, but that doesn’t really compensate for twice the damage output in my book. Captain Idaho Posted August 1, 2019 Share Posted August 1, 2019 A 2+ armour save will mean the Land Raider will be less vulnerable to S7 D2 weapons but yes the firepower is superior on 2 Contemptors. However, those units won't provide you a platform for Chronus, which was the purpose of the suggestion of a Land Raider. Usually I take him for a cheaper spearhead detachment as his tank choice counts as a heavy pick. As far as I know, Chronus cannot pilot a Contemptor Mortis dread, it would be cool if he could. Stickeh Posted August 2, 2019 Share Posted August 2, 2019 Oh I wasn’t suggesting he could pilot a contemptor mortis, I was just saying point for point they’re a far better buy right now. I think that there best use for him is a land raider or crusader, they have comparatively more firepower to benefit from his better BS, and are more likely to get benefit out of his wound regen than the much easier to kill predator. The problem isn’t really chronus but the lacklustre marine vehicles right now, 30 pts to fill a mandatory HQ slot is a bargain frankly, so I’d only really take him if you were taking a vehicle he can pilot anyway.
