How do I get started?

I used to play Dark Eldar back when we were called truekin. Back in 4th ed. But that is long past and i've been thinking about restarting the army. The only question is - how?

I know i want a Kabal army, mostly gunboats and razorwings, but how many kabalite warriors do I need? What's the cheapest way to get a lot of them and a lot of the transports for cheap?

So I have also only just started my 8th Edition DEldar journey, but I'll give you my two cents.

It seems you've already decided on a Kabalite Army which makes model selection easier. When it comes to the number of Kabalite Warriors I'd say it relies on a few things;

1. Which transports you want to use, Raiders can carry 10 but a Venoms can only carry 5.

2. How many special weapons you want, this is determined by having either 5 or 10 warriors, you can have one special weapon for every 5 models and 1 heavy weapon for every 10.

3. What points you are aiming for.

I personally am looking at 6 squads of 5 with one Blaster, each squad loaded into a Venom with 2 Splinter Cannons. The difference is I plan to mix and match with some Haemonculus Covens as well as just keeping it pure Kabal.

I approve of Razorwings, they are very good, arguably one of the best flyers in the game at the moment, 3 of those can cause massive disruption for your opponent.

As for actually getting a lot of them cheap I would suggest either eBay or one of the discounters. Usually I'd recommend the Start Collecting Box but in this case it unfortunately only has Wych Cult units (and a Venom but not worth it just for that).

Hello SyNidus,

I wrote an article on Drukhari recently which might help you out: https://www.goonhammer.com/start-competing-drukhari/

In terms of your specific questions:

Kabalites in Venoms with either shredders or blasters are both good. Personally I really rate shredders - for less than half the points of a blaster they do a lot of work. Squads of 5 in a Venom (keep them cheap - 10pts for the splinter cannon upgrade is a lot across an army!) do a lot of work for very little investment.

I also really like Razorwings, again cheap and with a lot of output.

Personally I think Drukhari are one of the cheaper armies to get into by buying retail - most of the units are pretty cheap cash wise. That said, eBay or trading locally is always a good way to get into an army if you don't want to buy new.

Funny you mentioned that because I actually read that article and was inspired to restart my DE. Now with the new marines codex though, i might have to put this on hold.
