General Strike
So, I'm not a Space Wolves player, but a guy I know was getting rid of his late 6th edition army of Wolves, and I traded him some random Guard I had lying around for roughly double the value. So, I haven't had a day off to do a full inventory, but it looks like this: HQ: Logan Grimnar: Unbuilt Wolf Lord: Frost Sword and Combi-Melta Rune Priest: Staff and Bolt Pistol Wolf Guard Battle Leader: Storm Bolter and Power Fist and one with Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield Lukas the Trickster Elites Murderfang Wolf Guard Terminators: TH/SS, Dual Lightning, Assault Cannon/Fist, stormbolter/chainfist, powersword stormbolter Troops 30x Blood Claws 20x Wolf Guard Between the two groups it had four plasmaguns and two flamers Fast Attack Thunder Wolf Cavalry: 2x Thunder Hammer and Shields, 1x Plasma Pistol and Chainsword Flyer Stormfang: Hellfrosts, Multi Meltas Transports Rhino Drop Pod It averages out to around 2100 points when I take everything, including WGBL on all the troops. I have them listed on ebay and a couple FB groups to sell, but haven't decided if I want to keep them or not. I worry the regular marines will lose support, and they will go legacy. What do you guys think I should go with? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357494-came-into-a-bunch-of-space-wolves-suggestions/ Share on other sites
Zephaniah Adriyen
Keep 'em. You've got yourself a gold mine here. Run them as allies for other Imperium armies you have lying around, or run them by themselves. Wolf Guard Dan
With the new "Shock Assault Rule" Blood Claws are going to get 4 attacks on the charge before buffing them further. They may become the preferred troop choice. Wolf guard with chainswords will also get 4 attacks on the charge. I think you have a good core to an army. Just depends on what play-style you're looking for. Could add Wulfen for an all-out assault army. Add in long fangs for a more balanced list. The only thing not up to snuff are the terminators and drop pod. Everything else could be played in our stronger lists. Karack Blackstone
Grey Hunters are a core gun line element. Blood Claws are a shock assault group, after the changes discussed above. Neat thing: if you get your GH's Chainswords, you can proxy any BC for a GH, just inform your opponent of this desire before going that route. The fun part about GH's right now is how strong shooting typically is overall. With Blood Claws getting so many attacks on the charge, and +1 To Hit for our Chapter Tactic, there's every reason to include at least one BC pack. The problem with Wolves as ever is the lack of PA mobility and the ability to pressure effectively to force the foe to fire on undesirable targets to get the "correct" pack to its target. As in, if you want BC's to excel, you're going to either need a Stormwolf or a Land Raider Crusader to get them there in any reasonable manner. The problem is not the cost alone; it's the way to use the vehicle to get its passengers to the intended enemy threat. What will aid you is learning what to use and when; transports need escorts, after a bit. I am not that great at building lists most of the time, but favor please one thing above all others, as it will aid you. 10 man or more Packs. With a Rhino needing 9 GH's and a WGPL, the pack will need to get escorted in by either a Land Speeder or perhaps a Stormhawk or Stormwolf, maybe an LRC or some other thing to draw pressure and fire. Above all, give the enemy bad choices at best, and worse choices, when going for the throat. If you learn how to advance with force, and to present no ideal targets, or, too many to reasonably handle, there should be a far easier time taking a bite out of the enemy.
