Starting Knights

Recommended Posts

I recently acquired a few knights for a really great price so naturally I'd like to see what I can do with them.

I now have:

Valiant

Crusader w/RFBC

Gallant

Paladin

2 Helverins

I'm considering converting the paladin into a second gallant.

What combination of knights and guard do you think would work well together for ITC play?

Any advice on which household to go with? I was thinking Hawkshroud since these are mostly aggressive knights that need to get up field.

Any advice is appreciated.

Most ITC that I have seen are not just Knights but soup with loyal troops(Guard or even Marine scouts). But since all the changes in the last month with the Castellan being increased in points and "I, wha? what does it all mean" changes to all the Forge World Knights I have no idea what the Knight builds are right now.

Hawkshroud will get the best mileage out of your valiant

I would try double Batallions of Guard and 3 big knights

Thanks for the replies. Three knights with double Guard battalions seems like the way to go. I've been looking at Junior Aflleje's list as it seems solid. Flyer spam seems like it would be an issue and maybe GSC, particularly abberants.

Are you saying the Paladin is better than the Gallent?

Krash

Calling a Paladin an Optimal is not my idea but I do like mine, a lot. I don't use a Gallant. I can't see not having a good gun being worth an extra attack in melee. I understand that I'm in the minority in this by what I see online. Seems folks like the specialist Knights over the balanced. I suppose it could be an ITC thing or just competitive min maxing. He already has a Gallant so maybe having more options would be better but that's probably just my Highlander tendency talking.

I’m convinced for my area that Gallants are a liability - for competitive play.

A smart opponent just screens them out and he spends his time not earning his points back

I’ve experimented with wardens to mixed results. Crusaders seem to be the most reliable. If you need melee unleash the happy feet

I think triple Crusaders is really strong right now but I don't have that many right now. I am playing in a small RTT on Sunday and I'm probably bringing something close to this:

Hawkshroud (maybe Mortan because of PBs and flyers)

Valiant

Crusader, RFBC, Ironstorm

Gallant

2× Helverins

Loyal 32

A Hawkshroud Valiant with the relic flamer is an amazing thing to behold.

I'm a bit rusty on my IK.  Why is Hawkshroud so great for a unit that doesn't care much about scaling BS (ie. the flamer autohits)?

House Hawkshroud has an 'Overwatch for Friendlies' Stratagem.

The Valiant's flamer puts the 'gem' in 'stratagem' in that case, and I've been tempted to get a pair of Valiants and run them up the field together, giving one the relic flamer and the other Blessed by the Sacristans on the flamer.

Every time someone talks about how great that flamer is and how it stops assault, my Ordo Malleus, =][= Lord, with the Terror psychic power knows his spot in my list is secure. There are times when I question the inclusion of my namesake model. But things like this are reassuring.
