Valika Junction - Angron - Help

Recommended Posts

Ladies and gents,

I bought a war hound titan just after ADB released Betrayer - my personal favourite book in the Horus Heresy, with the single intention of recreating the scene of Angron holding a titan across his shoulders. This was going to be the display piece that I would persuade my future better half to have on the mantle piece if it ever got completed (it never did). The project never even got off the ground, the titan is still unbuilt, awaiting Angron's loving touch.

A couple of days ago, I finally started on the Angron. Being tight as I am I decided that there is no way in hell that I am going to totally mangle my own Angron in order to facilitate this as I wanted to crush parts of his armour and rip off all of the trappings of the Imperium which would mean that I need to sculpt an entirely new belt piece out of Greenstuff. No thanks.

A few years back I was lucky enough to get some advice from the great Simon Egan, and I left green stuff behind for good and now use an oil based putty which doesn't cure (pain) but is lovely to work with.

I now feel confident enough to attempt to sculpt my own version of Angron (minus the head; that's been press moulded, sculpting that is truly beyond both my current ability, if not my ambition).

Below is the beginnings of this project then:

Only a solitary image for now because I'm facing something of a conundrum which is the main reason for this post.

Does the body look too rigid to be holding the weight of a titan?

This is loosely what the top half of his body is based on.

I'd like to get opinions on this before I sink a week into sculpting something that'll look forced.

As an FYI - a melted and wounded Larger is next week's project ;)

Creating conversions of Angron based on scenes from ADB‘s books (and Betrayer in particular) has become a bit of a thing for me as well, so this should be fascinating to watch!

It looks like you‘re off to an excellent start, and I‘d say rigidity shouldn‘t be too much of a problem, seeing how I distinctly remember the scene basically describing Angron‘s every muscle being locked in place at this moment.

I do, however, have one suggestion: The Atlas statue you cite as your point of reference looks bent under the weight of the world, as well it should. However, I have always imagined Angron‘s stance to look more like he‘s trying to push the Titan upwards to topple it (even if that‘s beyond him): Legs spread apart, torso arched backwards — in a way, bent in the opposite direction compared to Atlas. Does that make sense?

In any case, I‘ll be following this with quite some interest!
