L30n1d4s
So, I have always struggled figuring out how to get Gates of Infinity close enough to the enemy (i.e. 6" aura bubble from the Librarian casting it) to make it effective, especially early in the game. Most of my ideas previously involved a suicidal Biker Librarian moving/advancing 20" up the board and popping Null Zone, the shooting at whatever is caught in his "aura" with strong AP weapons to kill it while its Invul is down (i.e. Daemons, Purestrain Genestealers, Imperial Knights, Harlequins, TH/SS Terminators, Magnus/Mortarian/Guilliman, etc.). Well, with the advent of the Impulsor, I think I may have figured out a better (if still somewhat suicidal) method of getting Null Zone into play: --- -Start Tigurius (or another librarian, but Tigurius is best) in a 4++ save Impulsor, along with 5 Intercessors, with the Impulsor deployed as far forward as possible. -Turn 1, move the Impulsor forward 14", disembark Tigurius and squad 3", then move another 6" and advance another D6"... with a decent Advance roll, that pushes Tigurius 24" or more toward the enemy lines. -Cast Null Zone, using his +1 to Cast and re-rolls of failed casts to have a high likelihood of getting off the power (which also has a reduced casting requirement compared to the old codex). -This should give you an effective "range" for Null Zone of 30" from the edge of your deployment zone, meaning that, if your opponent has any units with good Invul saves stationed out front (or any Psykers, for that matter... Null Zone also makes them MUCH less effective and they cannot shoot the Librarian casting it until after their own Psychic Phase is over), then you can light them up with impunity using all the heavy ranged weaponry in you army on turn 1. ***NOTE: As a matter of insurance, Tigurius can also cast on himself the new Ultramarine power that gives him a 5++ and -1 to Hit... add in the ability to give himself another -1 to Hit and he might be able to weather the storm enemy return fire/attacks after he does the Null Zone trick on Turn 1. Between that and the intercessors absorbing some of the enemy attention, he might just survive long enough to fight another day. Joukernaut
It’s a very bad tradeoff to kill some plaguebearers or genestealers and in exchange loose Tiggy turn 1 if you ask me. The slingshot tactic is decent, bit probably better saved for an important moment where you can get to an important target and get some screening in for Tigurius. The chief librarian is no cannonfodder, he’s just too good. Marshal van Trapp
You know what this could be good against? Knights, put him right up there turn 1 and burn down a knight with AP-4 weapons so it doesn't get a save, hell pack the impulsor with hellblasters and they can double tap (although you couldn't advance them unless you are running assault) I could see something like this having interesting results against an all knight army Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/357667-impulsornull-zone-slingshot-tactic/#findComment-5365435 Share on other sites
