Chaplain litanies

Chaplains! Boy, did they change for the better. Was really hoping "regular" space marines didn't get left behind, and they didn't! Anyways, on to my question.

So, the litanies are recited at the beginning of the battle round. But that's a bit of a problem, potentially. What if you wanted to use Canticle of hate on an assault squad before it jump packs onto the table 9" away? Does it have to say whether you need to be on the table or not? If the chaplain can't, then I'll be a little disappointed with that particular litany. I'll just go without it in favor of a +1 to hit in melee or something.

Let's talk about it guys!

Important note for Canticle of Hate: it's an "aura" Litany, which means only the Chaplain needs to be on the table to "be inspiring." Any units that are within 6" of the Chaplain at the relevant time (ie, the Charge and Fight phases) will benefit, even if they were not on the table when the Litany was "inspiring."

There are, essentially, two kinds of Litanies:

  1. Auras, such as Canticles of Hate and Litany of Hate, that work as long as the Chaplain is on the board to use them
  2. Targeted buffs, such as Mantra of Strength and Recitation of Focus, that require both the Chaplain and the target unit to be on the table at the start of the battle round.

In the instance of the Chaplain buffing the Assault Squad with Canticle of Hate: the Chaplain himself will need to be on the table at the start of the battle round, but the Assault Squad can deploy via their Jump Pack Assault rule and still benefit from the bonus.

Very good point Kallas!! I did not think of that. So the chaplain just has to make to inspiring roll, doesn't matter if they are there when it happens. Kind of like Null Zone for the librarian. Nice. Well my strategy still has a shot. Gonna try it once I get a couple more assault squads. If I'm understanding correctly, I cannot have assault doctrine active until round 3, which is a considerably long time for several squads to be in reserve. And it is, in my mind, pretty essential. So still thinking to be done for me.

So if a Chaplain jumps out of a transport, the Litany can not be activated in that turn, by that Chaplain?

What about Canticle of Hate and using the Stratagem to reroll a dice, rerolling a charge distance dice?

Please excuse grammar. spelling mistakes and such.

Edit, wrong word.
