Legio Fureans Walks!

Hi all,

Following my Atarus thread (here http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/352857-legio-atarus-walks/) I thought I’d share my next project too. While my Atarus force will no doubt grow at some point, I’m taking a break to get some Traitors done. I have several wargaming friends who are interested in playing, but haven’t taken the plunge yet. So rather than constantly run Atarus civil war games, I thought I’d pick another Legio to pair against them. After much humming and hawing, I plumped for Fureans as they have a very striking colour scheme, contrast well with my Firebrands and have a nice selection of transfers to choose from!

So, here was my first attempt, a Warhound Titan, yet to be named...

Next up I tackled a Warlord with some alternate weapons. I think this one will be simply called Leviathan.

And then most recently, I’ve rounded it out with the Reaver Iron Praetor, also with some alternate weapons.

And finally, here’s a group shot!

Next up is a pair of Acastus, then I’ll be adding some Cerastus and another one of each Titan class. When I have more time I’ll describe how I went about painting them, Fureans is a pain, so any help I can offer other aspiring Tiger Eyes princeps will hopefully be appreciated!

As ever, comments and suggestions very welcome!

Greetings!
Nice to see another Fureans princeps around here! :smile.:
Painting yellow is real hard. Sometimes I think that I'm not completely sane to choose Fureans as my main force... but hey, the next one will be Defensor with white plates

Some beautiful Titans here.

How’d you do the yellow?

Dallo

First off, in contrast with my Atarus engines, these have all been painted with the armour plates separate. The skeleton was under coated with a Leadbelcher rattle can, Nuln Oil Gloss wash and an Agrax Gloss wash. Some details were then picked out in the new version of Tin Bitz, (I’ve blanked on the new name) and highlighted with copper.

The yellow armour panels were undercoated with the new Wraithbone contrast primer can, then a couple of coats of Yriel Yellow mixed with a small amount of the new light yellow contrast, Iyanden Yellow, I think.

Next, I painted The Fang as a basecoat for the flames and black armour panels, I find Abaddon Black doesn’t go well straight over the yellow for some reason.

Then, I painted the trims with Iron Hands Steel, and painted over with Nazdreg Yellow contrast, this gives you a nice gold colour, plus as I deliberately ran it onto the edge of each armour panel, it shades the yellow areas too.

Once that’s all dry, I painted Yriel yellow to strengthen the colour and cover up any unsightly Nazdreg overspill, then highlighted with Flash Gitz Yellow, before picking out edges I wanted to accent with Dorn Yellow. That’s the yellow done, then use Black Templar contrast to paint over the Fang on any black armour plates, and Black Templar mixed with Abaddon Black to block in the flames. Quick highlight of Dawnstone on all black areas and that’s it apart from details.

It’s not that quick, but I like the results. I’ll try and remember to do some WIP shots next time I do another Titan.

Nicely done and far harder than he more ubiquitous mortis

Thanks, Mortis looks cool, but making black look interesting is actually quite tricky, I find. Plus, as I have red, bone and black, in that order of importance, on my Atarus, doing black, bone and red didn’t seem like enough of a contrast!

That looks very nice indeed. Not sure I can really help with the yellow. I have a similar scheme for my Blood Bowl Orc team and used a couple of thinned coats Iyanden Darksun over a grey basecoat. I then mixed that with Golden Yellow and applied it over the top, before highlighting by adding bone paint to the mix. For shading I used sepia wash (applied prior to the highlight stage). I think that sounds more involved than your version to be honest!
