Arson Fire
People usually go for Monstrous Rending Claws on tyrants, rather than the scything talons. They're Free! Due to the re-rolls to wound they grant, they actually end up doing better damage against most targets. A kraken flyrant in particular really likes to have a gun too. So it can leave combat, shoot something, then charge back in. Hive Guard are usually taken in a unit of 6. Because they are what you will be using the Single Minded Annihilation stratagem on, to double-fire them each turn. The bigger the unit size, the more extra shots that 2CP is giving you. Zoanthropes are usually taken at a unit size of either 4 or 6. Because at each of those unit sizes their smite gets more powerful. At only 3 zoanthropes, they only have a regular smite with a bit more range. Tervigons are... questionable. Their problem is that they don't really do anything except replenish dead termagants. If someone kills all of those 27 termagants, then the tervigon can no longer replace them, and you're left with a kinda pointless and expensive monster, with no decent guns or effective close combat ability. Remember that while replenishing dead gaunts in an existing unit is free, creating a new unit costs reinforcement points. You could take about 50 extra termagants instead of the tervigon, and would end up with far more gaunts than it was likely to ever produce. thepowerofwar
Thanks for your thoughts on this. So far I have done 1 test and we timed out on turn 3 against necrons 17 to 15 with nid ahead. But if the game were to continue I would have been table turn 5 at the latest. As much as I hate forge world the malenthorp looks good for some much needed support until a new codex or a very needed update. I have also been thinking of getting a broodlord too. Claws and Effect
With 40 Genestealers you definitely want a Broodlord. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/358158-2k-itc-gt-list/#findComment-5430616 Share on other sites
IronDreddKnight
I agree with everything said above. What I would recommend is dropping the zoanthropes (the Neurothrope can do the same job only with character protection and re rolling 1’s) I’d also swap the flyrant’s talons for MRC to save points. These two changes free’s up enough points to fill out the hive guard. Making full use of ‘single minded annihilation’. I’d consider dropping the tervigon in favour of more Gants and a second Neurothrope. I’ve not been impressed with the tervi in 8th edition. Fingers crossed she gets some love in the new supplement. I can’t critique the GSC bikes too well, since I’ve never played them. But would it be an idea to take demo charges and make use of the stratagem where you can grow multiple Grenades? Food for thought :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/358158-2k-itc-gt-list/#findComment-5435183 Share on other sites
