40k Blackshield Warband

Would a traitor Blackshield Warband from the Horus Heresy be reasonably expected to survive until 40k and become a Chaos Warband? I'd like to build a 30k and 40k Blackshield army but with Chaos units too.

I think if you were going to do it you should have a unique heraldry and force name with a colour to complement the red and black along with a name, tied to an overall commander/ chaos lord etc. Black shield is the forces origin, but in 40K black shields would transition into a more traditional self contained warband with its own identity if it fell to chaos.

There's no reason your army can't be exactly the way you want it to be. If you want Blackshield Heretic Astartes, make it so.

The Ashen Claws were a blackshield warband of Terran Raven Guard exiles that survived into 40k on the edge of the galaxy even without Chaos's involvement so you could absolutely do that! I've wanted to do something like that too.
