blood angels contrast paint

hello, I have a question about the Blood Angels red contrast paint if anyone has used it. I've been painting my reds really dark, mephiston red over chaos black spray and then one or two coats of carroburg crimson. Can this contrast paint replicate such a dark red? Maybe over a dark undercoat?

Hi!

I was going to test this evening with a white undercoat. But now that you mention it I think I will do another test with a black undercoat to see what the results are in both.
I'll try to give some feedback tomorrow if no one has done so before :)

No idea but these flesh hounds are Blood Angels red over Black Templar with some details picked out again in wraithbone so I guess that counts. The red on their backs is the same colour on their bodies, just transitioning into Iyanden Yellow and over straight wraithbone.

There's a patch on Karanak's shoulder where I skipped out on any black templar so that's pure BA red over wraithbone and you can see how it looks different to the leg scales below which have a darker base tone.

If you want to emulate Mephiston over black, use Flesh Tearers. I've tried both and they are both great. Flesh Tearers gives you a slightly glossier fresh blood color like in the Heresy artwork, while Blood Angels over Grey Seer will give you the same color as building up your red the traditional way. Just be wary of pooling. It defeats the purpose of the 'speed' intended by contrast, but I go with the 2 coats of contrast mixed with contrast technical in 50:50 ratio  to avoid pooling.

I'm using blood angels red over wraithbone spray on my Crimson Slaughter, it comes out quite similar to Evil Suns Scarlet, which I am using for tidying up. Haven't done much further experimenting as that is what I want for my stuff, but I'd imaging to get as dark as you're looking for you might need Flesh Tearers Red over mechanicus standard grey undercoat (or similar)
