Leadership modifiers and commissars

Recommended Posts

When Guard infantry are within 6” of a commissar they use his leadership instead of THEIR own.

Do modifiers stack onto this since the Catachan doctrine or the banner add 1 to THEIR leadership.

This sounds like you would always use the Commisars leadership and could not stack onto that.

On the flip side, if someone used negative leadership debuffs on an infantry unit near a commisar, then their leadership would be unaffected because they are using the commissars leadership instead of their own.

Or would you say that the Commissars leadership becomes the leadership of nearby infantry and you can stack further on top? For example Catachan guardsmen next to a banner, Lord Commissar and an officer become leadership 11 (9+2).

Not sure which way to run it.

The rules are clear on who's Leadership you're using, so if you're using the Commissar's value that's his stat - anything adding to the Guardsman's doesn't help as that changes their Leadership, not the Commissar's. Don't forget that a Commissar isn't part of a Regiment so he doesn't get any Regimental bonuses or benefit from the banner.

As you note, this does mean that you can sidestep any penalties to your squad if a nearby Commissar isn't affected by it :smile.:

There's an FAQ relating to that

Unfortunately it's one or the other

Ie. You get the other characters ld or you can modify yours not both

Side note do commissars count for the catachan bonus I thought they need the office / voc ability?

Not that I imagine many cadachans care for the commissars presence to begin with ;)
