1st legion 30k/40k

Ive decided to join the forces of the Dark Angels. My Army will be played in 40k and parts of it in 30k.

 

My angels have, because of the rumoured return of the Lion, painted their armour in Legion colours, primaris and firstborne marines alike.

 

First part of this army is a detachment of Ravenwing, deathwing and Primaris.

 

My gaming group has allowed me to use 30k skyhunter jetbike-squads in 40k.

Cool idea. I figured I give you some constructive criticism.

 

I suggest that you do a pin wash with oil paints. Perhaps a basing with a lighter colour scheme that ties well in with a ligher colour on the pin wash.

 

A lighter colour pin wash will show the contours and shapes better on black models. So a desert khaki paint scheme on the bases is ideal for very dark models such as black ones. So a desert base (still you could have some industrial rubble), and then you could mix up some yellow, brown and white to make a khaki oilpant, dilute it and do a pin wash. That would improve significantly the models appearance.

 

Another idea is a Mars themed base with rust reds on the base and burnt sienna as oil paint pin wash would look quite good too.

Thanks alot for the feedback! I think these photos show the models a bit darker than they actually are. You mean that the wash would represent like dust or grime in the recesses? Do you have a photo or something to see? Im interested

yes, mostly dust in this case as it will be in a lighter colour. I did pretty much exactly that with my alpha legion, they are based on Mars themed bases with a burnt sienna oil paint pin wash over gloss varnish (that is dulled down a bit with a final varnish coat of gloss and matt varnish mixed 3:1 to dull it down a bit).

Thanks alot brother! I think i will complete my Army first to get a playable force, then add pinwash. Im aiming for a primary raven -and deathwing force for 30k but adding azrael and primaris to use it combined in 40k.

Where did you get those clear rods for the bases? Do they come with the jetbike? They look way sturdier than the GW rods.

Yeah they came with the jetbike-kits from kromlech. Waaay sturdier, each bike has 2 rods to choose from, one a little taller and one shorter, im using the shorter ones

Damn, I like them, I regret I didn't find those out before I bought my scimitars from FW, they cost almost half of the scimitars and comes with the same weapon options.

 

So you don't plan to paint the details and the plasma coils on the primaris models? They look very dark and sinister.

Yeah i thought about it a long time, trying to decide between FW and kromlech until finally deciding kromlech, the difference in pricing is of course the big factor.

1st legion is coming along nicely. 3 more hellblasters, 3 jetbikes (almost done) and a ravenwing-biker. I have 7 more jetbikes, 5 more bikers, 9 more scoutbikes and 3 speeders for my ravenwing. Then its 4 deathwing-squads of various types planned.
