Burni
I’ve just got hold of a bottle of Tamiya extra thin cement and I am converted! This stuff is amazing for a lot of things but because it is so runny, I still need the normal viscous type of plastic cement. Just about out of my normal plastic glue (standard Revell stuff) and was wondering if the non extra thin Tamiya stuff is worth getting? Does it come in the same glass bottle with the same small brush? Is it quite viscous so it will stay in a blob, even if I turn it upside down (learned not to do that with the extra thin very quickly...) I find the brush so much easier to work with so would be willing to pay the extra for the Tamiya, if the glue is decent. Son of Sacrifice
It's all I use, love the stuff. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/358368-tamiya-plastic-cement/#findComment-5386638 Share on other sites

CMDR_Welles
Does it stay in a blob? Does it have the same brush as the thin stuff? No, it is a very thin liquid that uses capillary action to flow into the seam/join and it melts the two surfaces. It evaporates so there is no sticky goop or glue residue to deal with. All that remains is the melted plastic that can be scraped/sanded like the rest of the model. They are the best types of cements for plastics. I've been using them for 19 years, and I wont use anything else now. While Tamiya Extra Thin is good, I'm now really fond of Plastic Magix by Deluxe Materials. Its 100 times better IMHO. Thanks for the response! I think we've got our wires crossed. I have the extra thin. What I want to know is if the normal Tamiya cement, i.e. this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tamiya-87003-Cement-40ml-Toy-Transparent/dp/B000RLWAN2?SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duckduckgo-osx-uk-21&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B000RLWAN2 Has the same size brush as the extra thin and if it stays where its put rather than running like the extra thin. Thanks! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/358368-tamiya-plastic-cement/#findComment-5386778 Share on other sites
InquisitorVonTansburg
Hi, Tamiya plastic cement is thicker, I guess it is comparable to other hobby plastic cements like Revell or Citadel in viscosity. The brush is slightly larger than the extra thin brush. However it works fine for me. I use both extra thin and ‘normal’ plastic cement, and I think they are great! Burni
Great, thanks for the info. I've just found a seller nearby on eBay for a decent price, so will give it a go. Even if the brush is larger, its got to be less messy than the blobs the Revell nozzle spits out... CMDR_Welles
That glue is pretty much the same as the Revell/GW/ModelMasters, just in a glass bottle. The brush is way too big IMHO, and is not the best applicator for small parts.. It is still going to have the stupidly long drying times that that type of glue has. You are still going to need to clamp the parts together for a few hours for it to set. One of the great things about the Extra Thin type liquid is that since it evaporates, you've got 10-30 seconds before its set. It will still need to cure for 20-30 minutes, but that lower working time is a godsend. No parts drooping, seam separation, or any of that mess. Burni
Ah that’s how the magic of extra thin works! Will give the brush a go, as I said, it can’t be worse than nozzle I’ve been using! Thanks all. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/358368-tamiya-plastic-cement/#findComment-5386957 Share on other sites
