See, he's not babysitting them!  He's driveby (jumpack by?) buffing units as he moves into the enemy.  Its giving the right tool to the right unit at the right time.. and then going somewhere else.  He's got more mobility on the board with 14" movement than any one I can think of off the top of my head.  To keep him still is a mistake, and to keep him with anyone that cant keep up with him is also a mistake.

I agree. You can start him in the backfield to buff eliminators/hellblaster/devastators T1 and then move him up the board. T2 he buffs a mid field unit or two, possibly charges, or you deep strike in some stuff around him so they get the reroll on the charge. T3 he's up killing characters that the eliminators couldn't take care of or force of position. All the while suppresors are attempting to mitigate overwatch and we still might have some libby shenanigans going on as well since we haven't seen anything of that.

Said so much more eloquently than I could have.  This is what I meant.

I'm thinking of 2 blobs of Incursors deploying as far forward as possible. Then a pair of Invictors coming in from one flank. While the other flank will be Shrike, Reiver Lt and 10 Reivers with Grapnels and Heavy Bolt Pistol.

Back end of the board would be a Phobos Captain and Phobos Lt babysitting 2 units of Fusil Eliminators and 1 of Bolt Eliminators, plus a unit of Scouts to complete a Batallion and Vanguard.

My one major disappointment with Shrike's rules is that his Melee is only S4. He'll struggle against Tyranid Beasties (even a Broodlord), Death Guard characters, etc. Even with 6 attacks. I'd rather have dropped the Mortal Wound chance on a charge to being S5 on the charge.

Thanks, and I should add that while playing that way might not be very competitive to me it seems incredibly thematic.

Chappy rides up in Impulsor, Libby slingshots Chappy up the board T2 meeting up with Shrike (who will now have a +1 to wound) Who then shreds anything without a 4+ armor save

I don't think Shrikes a game changer but I also think the Iron (Father) Hand army has a boring play style, that lacks the maneuver ability that gives top players the edge. Point n' Click armies have a high floor but a lower ceiling. Just my opinion, but a good Raven Guard player will pick apart a good Iron Hand players buffs characters, avoid much of the tanky stuff long enough to have the advantage in board control and collect more secondary mission points.
