How do you use Wulfen?

I am running Wulfen for the first time soon, and I was wondering how to incorporate them into my strategy.

I can build two units of five.

While they're wonderfully efficient killers, they seem rather fragile for their points. So I was hoping one of you might have some good advice or experience with them.

  • Do I just run them across the board? Hopefully they will make it, but they'll likely be the most dangerous of my units, so they'll draw all the fire.
  • Do I hide them in safety out of sight near something important? For the first turn or two, they'll be counter-attack units, and from three onward, they can run towards the now thinned-out enemies.
  • Do I put them in a Stormwolf and fly them forward? That seems like the best bet for getting them to the enemy lines, but the Stormwolf is so expensive - it feels like too many eggs in one basket.

I typically run 5 in a stormwolf with Bloodclaws. They for sure arent fragile per se, but you dont want them in the open either.

I tend to use mine as a wrench rather than a hammer/scalpel. I know people fear them and will try to remove them asap so i try to throw them at something so they have to deal with them really fast. Ive had them charge into 30 genestealers and survive holding up a whole flank so i could focus on the other to wonderful success for example. It wasn't the best use of thunder hammers but it was instrumental in the win. I've even 100% thrown them away by baiting huge demon deep strikes because i know rthey want them dead but this way i controlled the narrative through their fear.

Pregame I look at the list or setup during deployment (if they are in a Stormwolf) and figure out where the heart of their army is and i send them in. If nothing else than for disruption. Without buffs from a Wolf Priest or the like though they arent the most reliable thing ever at the actual kill.

With stormshields they absolutely are. Having 2 wounds and FNP also means wasted damage for opponents if you save. Like I said, I don’t recommend footslogging up for the express purpose of distraction I still set them up as best as I can to get in combat via transport. Cunning with their reroll and CP is only like 55% chance to get in.
I run my only squad a mix of 2 shields, 2 axes, and leader with claws. I normally use the CP to keep them safe but in the numerous games played have rarely had them make the 9" charge. They just come on, the shields tank the shooting but die, then the axes and claws go do some work.

I have 1 squad of 5 wulfen i field tested

Max storm shields (IMO must have)

I felt they did better if i could start them on the board and use terrain to block LOS.

They have amazing mobility because they can advance and still charge

If the field looked bad i would outflank them
