September Big FAQ speculation and wishlisting

With thd big FAQ inbound I'm fuessing many of us have stuff we're hoping to see, or expect to see, so I decided to open another can of worms.

I'll start with my own: I'd like to see Grav weapons get changed. Maybe always wounding on a 3+ (maybe with mortal wounds on 6s as well).

Objective placement being limited to the ground level would be good to prevent feel bad moments where objectives become unscorable to certain armies solely becuase they're not on the ground.

So what things are you expecting or want to see?

Tbh I don’t think there’ll be much in this one. Not a great deal has changed since the last one so I’d be surprised if there are any big changes.

However, it would be really cool if they used it as an opportunity to give a doctrines like rule to each faction for being mono-dex, kind of to hold them over until their new codex is released.

Objectives on ground would be an interesting choice though certainly there are pros and cons to that.

My BIG BIG BIG want is just a single word. Adding one simple word.

"Can only be targeted if it is the closest VISIBLE unit"

Boom, fixed.

Would also like to see some changes to flyers though really the only change that is needed here is for eldar to lose their double pivot and move that to a stratagem but that's more of a change to the codex and really there is so many things needing sorted with Eldar it isn't even funny. (in before doom nerfed to re-rolling 1s to wound)

I do agree there isn't really much to change. I think a big one would be just some house keeping on Doctrines for marines, mainly that being having multiple doctrines active at once (Ultramarines notably can do this and so can Iron Hands).

Wonder if we will see some more Beta Rules being tested.

Problem is, they already changed away from that. Would they go back to it as a lesser-of-two-evils sort of thing, or try to make a different change?

I'm hoping for some change to flyers, specifically their ability to (still) move block. Other than that, I think the competitive meta is in a good place, and I don't expect much.

I'd like to see some Khorne Daemon adjustments. Bloodcrushers, Skullmasters, and Bloodthirsters (Skarbrand included) all need love in the form of prices dropsrule tweaks, or other ways to make them a little more usable. Out of those the Skullmaster is probably the unit closest to being where it needs to be, followed by Bloodthirsters who just need a 4+ invuln and a 2+ armor. Bloodcrushers need a stiff points drop, or else  +1 toughness, and all juggernaughts probably need their damage and AP adjusted up.

I might also make Skullcannons 2d3, but I dunno. They're such a weird unit to slot into forces anyway. There isn't enough fire support to make them anything other than good lascannon targets.

That aside, Necrons need all the love in the world. Some point costs and adjustments to Immortal melee would probably be a big step in the right direction. Then give monoliths some more survivability so they can start seeing some use again.

I've been pretty happy with how the SM books bumped up Marines. They're incredibly strong compared to their previous incarnation, , now the other low tier armies need bumps so we're all clustered around those top tier slots. We got our toys. it's time for the next groups.

I think we will see some points changed.

I don't think so. I mean Chapter Approved is on the horizon now.

I feel like GW needs to go back and readjust all the old blast and large blast template weapons. D3 for blast, 2D3 for large blast.

At a minimum I hope CSM get the common shared vehicle points cuts that SM get in their 2.0 codex, along with 12 point CSM's. I think the common weapons points are pretty much in line with SM 2.0 and last years FAQ/CA for now.

Edit- well if not now then in the 2019 CA then.

I'm dying for a tweak to the terrain rules. Bring back abstract terrain rules - true line of sight has never been a success from day one.

- Woods/ruins should block line of sight through their base but you can shoot into and out of freely.

- Bring back unit sizes. A Rhino should block line of sight to a model rather than a tiny part of the model behind being seen and thus being open to being shot. Models would be dynamic in reality and duck and stoop etc.

Fix the "Reroll failed hits/wounds/etc." to plain reroll in all instances.

Change plasma to explode on unmodified 1s.

Would disagree on first bit as rerolling successful attacks seems odd and dare I say it an unsporting way to generate mortal wounds/extra attacks eg sniper rifles on vehicles

Agree bigtime on plasma as all the new rules seem to say unmodified rolls of one or six for funky things happening

This is possibly last FAQ before the FAQs become when all points are updated/changed (based on vibes I fot from community survey)

Fix the "Reroll failed hits/wounds/etc." to plain reroll in all instances.

Change plasma to explode on unmodified 1s.

then you are just changing re-rolls to happen after modifiers....

however do agree with overheats rules being changed to unmodified....

No, modifiers do not matter if you can reroll "a hit roll". Just like all new C:SM Chapter Masters, Guilliman, Cawl and Abaddon. It removes the obnoxious "Well this is technically a hit, but it will become a miss, but you can't reroll it... blah blah".

I would prefer all Plasma overheats to be "suffers a mortal wound". Otherwise it's just too risky on a character.

It should definately become "a mortal wound" rather than "slain" on characters. imo

So much this!

I wouldn't call it a fix. It's two very similar but still different sets of rules.

re: re-rolls.... as dark shepard said....then lets re-roll successes as well... because its not successful enough!... EDIT I suppose it wont matter if you go back and errata all the rules for things like extra attacks or MWs being unmodified... but then you get the issues of the ones that are on a 7+.....

re: plasma over heats, how about resolve unmodified 1s as a hit against the firer? ...

Fix the "Reroll failed hits/wounds/etc." to plain reroll in all instances.

Rerolls after modifiers would mean 'reroll 1s' would let you reroll 1s and 2s against -1 to hit stuff so its very different.

Regular Plasma maybe I think Helblasters are fine as is.

Maybe Chaos Space Marines will get that marine strat for endurance, whatever it's called. The thing that lets them only be wounded on 4+.

Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Dark Angels- all these guys will/should get it. That's my prediction.

This is something that would be implemented here, and not in Chapter Approved (i bet CSM rhinos will drop 5pts because the SM rhinos did..)

Do we know the FAQ is this month? I thought it dropped in October usually?

Well, it was August.. right? So they moved it bc of Nova
