Ahoy, dear Frater!

A few of us in the Loyalist ETL thread discussed very briefly how it feels a little emptier now that the ETL has finished for another year. I remembered this thing we used to do three or four years ago, where every month a bunch of us would decide to do some specific hobby each month and help to motivate each other to get that thing done.

Basically, you pledge or sign up to complete a certain hobby task before the end of the month, be it building, converting, painting, completing or any combination of the above. In the same vein as the ETL, you would post initial or in-progress pics, and then a completed one at the end of the month showing that you've fulfilled your goal.

Hopefully there's some motivation to do this in order to keep our momentum going after ETL, especially given our deservedly high results. I'm planning on building up my next army, Iron Hands, over the next several months in order to prep it for next year's ETL. There's also usually Loyalty and Treachery starting sometime in January, so if there's enough interest we can run this alongside those.

Once it's been established who and how many are keen to have a crack at this, we can look at things like tracking progress month to month, maybe doing a Loyalists vs. Traitors thing, or even an inter-legion contest depending on how many are participating.

In terms of an actual pledge, it doesn't need to be any more complex than this -

I, StruManChu, pledge to build and convert 15 Medusan Immortals for my Iron Hands by month's end. Failure to do so will result in gentle mockery from my more successful fellow participants.

Anyone else, feel free to sign up if you're keen. Any questions, hit me up!

I, Gederas, pledge to build and paint one Legio Custodes Telemon Heavy Dreadnought with two Iliastus Accelerator Culverin by month's end. Failure to do so will result in gentle mockery from my more successful fellow participants.

(I'm ordering the Telemon Friday when I get paid)

I, okonomiyakimarine, pledge to paint four regular drop pods, an Anvillus and one deathstorm pod in Word Bearer grey by month's end. Failure to do so will brake me on the same anvil as other fraters before me and I'd finally feel unity with last ETL's betray... uh oh oathbreakers.

edit: added some model...

Well, this has me de-lurking. I well remember the threads from a few years ago as I contributed to a few. So, considering that, I am committing to contribute. What I'll do for October, I'm unsure. But it'll either be something for my Alpha Legion or for Legio Krytos for Titanicus. I'll make a decision later

Stru, is it okay if I swap the Telemon? After the game I did today, I realized that loadout wasn't up to snuff for what I needed :laugh.:

If allowed, it'll be the Contemptor-Achillus Dreadnought instead.

That's absolutely fine mate. The point of the pledges isn't to be too restrictive, just to give you something to get done within the month. If we bring in a competitive angle, then it'll be a little less flexible, but for now if people need to change stuff I'm not gonna stop them!

Thanks, I loved these threads. Tried to participate in some of the ETL's but couldn't find as much motivation.

Anyway, decision made, it'll be a Legio Krytos Warlord for this month. This has been sat in this state for the past year:

Oh yeaaaaah, I've been waiting for this and to actually get to do something on this between all my other projects. Well, I guess the time has come. Got an online bat-rep to get ready for the 20th and don't have time for my post office/courier to deliver after Canadian Thanks Giving (reliably) or my GW order, or my third party pauldron order, or my FW order that was waiting a restock, etc etc. So we gots what we gots.

I, Vykes of the Warmaster's own 16th legion, vow 1 Drop Pod, 5 Seekers, 5 scouts, and a 5 man command squad to be done by October's end (and it blasted well better be ready for the 20th).

Never painted a pod before, so yeah, sub assembly in seven parts is something I should have considered. That's life when you built without painting. It took some time and back and forth till I had a 'color' scheme. I might be okay with that color scheme, honestly not super overwhelmed, but once all pods are painted the WB decals should make it clear who these pods belong to and some heavy weathering should cover up most mistakes.

Having deadlines of a few days sure does help keep productivity up.

Lots of spraying, washing, and dry brushing involved. The board was just foam core with a marble vinyl cling attached.

The army looked pretty cool. Was violently thrashed at the tournament I went to, though. It was a combination of weak lists, lack of good army rules, bad tactical decisions, the worst dice rolling my opponent has ever seen, and people bringing overly savage lists. Didn't have a great time overall, but there was at least 1 enjoyable moment each game, and the other armies there were gorgeous. Additionally, Tactical Strike was fun.

Edit- I give up on trying to make the image visible on the page. Imgur doesn't have the html link on mobile, and trying to copy the code from a how-to didn't work either. The army is going into a box until they get rules.

Mate, that is truly impressive! Great looking army as well. Love all the old style tanks you've got in there.

How's everyone else doing? We're about to cross the halfway mark of the month, so get cracking if you've still got ground to cover!

Looks pretty good, Brother Styphus. 'Course you can just host the images here on the B&C, eh? Man, there's something very 80's about the fortress in maybe the best way that makes me feel nostalgic. Still, love it all, looks great. And no worries: I'm currently getting absolutely brutalized in a 'campaign' that had a subset describing it as 'competitive'. It can't get much worse.

As for progress: not bad, I'm just kinda squirming and being all unsure about banner colours and decorations as it's the last thing I absolutely need for the 20th. So, White, Black, Red, or even Purple/blue with stars and celestial stuff are all on the table. Just... not sure which, yet.

Update:

Well, the Standard is done! Hopefully it looks close-ish to the only source material of a Luna Wolves banner I've seen.

Well... Good news is I'll be able to order the Custodes Dreadnought this month.

Bad news is it'll have to be NEXT week. Which means it won't be fully painted (well, I don't know if I can fully paint the thing by the end of the month, since it'd arrive on the 29th or 3t0th...), but WILL be fully assembled?

slow process. I underestimated these stupid space eggs. this afternoon i fixed a few things on the first and now have to base paint and wash the 3 other standard pods tonight. probably.

I LOVE the EC helmets on that image. That would be a way to make MkIII really work @Vykes and your marines look great!

Edited by okonomiyakimarine

Man, Okonomiyakimarine, you know it.  I'd kill to have more of those specialist Picklehaube style helmets in the range and still kinda wish I could think of a way to add them without the tops snapping off with a slightly mean glance.  That MK.III is killer, and I'm... gonna have to think of something as I got roped into being Loyalists in a big Black Book extravaganza next year starting with Istvaan III.  ... How, I don't know, but it means I need to do an Orphans of Betrayal army and that means the beautiful Emperor's Children.

Oye, if anyone knows something that might fit, love ta hear it.

And mate, I am soooo soo sorry to hear about doing even more of those standard pods.  After 8 here, I never want to see one again (thus, I have probably 2-3 more to do, too including a pair of Deathstorms).

Oh, random bit, I'm still working on my scouts but I got my shapeways pauldrons, Scimitars, Cataphractii, and Moritat all in.  Just need to fit 'em together and decide if I want to work on more drop pods and Speeders.  Yay choices for, well, probably next month but we'll see.  Could just be a late month vow 2.
