My first crusade

Recommended Posts

My first dabble into black templars, I love the lore and eagerly looking forward to some primaris love for them but i couldn't wait so I thought I'd start my own crusade a little earlier. I've been lurking here the last few weeks checking out other brothers work and it gave me so much inspiration.

Here's my primaris sword brethren

Tried a technique out.

Started with an airbrush base of P3 thamar black. Then added some lothern blue to make a dark grey blue and highlighted with the airbrush

Then added a little white to lighten and did a smaller highlight(first picture) then I went back to thamar black and made a glaze and started glazing back the darker sections with a brush(second picture)

Cheers mate, its p3 thamar black all over base coat,

Then I highlighted with an airbrush lothern blue and thamar black

Then a smaller highlight of the previous mix with a little bit of white in it.

Then with a brush I made thamar black into a glaze and glazed back the shadows and blacker parts

very nice. which colors do you use? GW-colors or another?

I use mostly use gw but I used a P3 black paint with these, I prefer the black as its quite highly pigmented it lays better than abaddon black or Vallejo blacks.

Looks absolutely ace!

Sadly I am not yet confident enough in my airbrushing to try Highlights as Fine as these

With this it worked well as I used my original black base coat as a glaze and brought the highlights that were too big back into the shadows and the areas I wanted to be black. Or in some cases glazed a whole section with watered down black then washed my brush of paint and feathered the highlight back in.

What are the ratios of black to lothern for the first highlight? Same question for the white on the second highlight. I really like the black that you've achieved.

I'm not sure about the exact ratio, I started with lothern blue in the airbrush about two full brushes. Then added 1 of black and I think I added about a half extra of the black because it wasn't dark enough. It didn't have any of the vibrancy of the blue and I tested a brush stroke of it against the black I was using. And then it was just a half brush of white for the highlight.

I have the test brush stroke on the paper still I'll take a photo
