The Executioners: starting an army

Warning: this is my second post on this forum, and I'm not 100% sure if this is the right sub-forum to post in. Let me know if I should move it somewhere else.

With that out of the way, here's the thing:

As the title suggests, I'm starting an Executioners army. Recently picked up the Start Collecting: Space Marines box as well as an extra Dreadnought (because A: they fit in well with the overall death theme of the chapter and B: Dreadnoughts are awesome). The question is, where do I go from here? I'm considering a Rhino/Razorback for transport or a Chaplain to beef up the rank and file, but also keeping in mind that a single Tactical squad might be a bit too thin as far as troops are concerned...

Oh, and: I'm not... wildly fond of the new Primaris marines, so we're preferably sticking to traditional Power Armour.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Yeah, when it's time for a Chaplain I was thinking about trying to convert one by mixing up either a normal Chaplain model or something like Asterioth from the BA's with the Chaos Master of Executions model (yeah it's Chaos but the axe and hood just looks too good to pass up). Should give me enough bits for a Captain as well.

I’d focus on fleshing our some of your basics like another tactical squad, devastators, and terminators (to go with the captain in the start collecting box). From there, go with what you like. If you like Dreadnoughts then there is a good variety of them. Maybe add a techmarine to keep them alive.

There was a “Lord Executioner” SM captain model model not too long ago that had a nice 2-handed ax and jump pack. he’d make a nice smash-captain alternative.

Combining 2x devastator squad + 1x tactical squad = most of or all the heavy weapon marines you'll need at the start.

You can use them either as devastators or as the heavy weapon in tactical squads - giving you flexibility (and firepower).

Also some scouts and/or more tacticals for troops.
