Whitelion
I have seen that for scale models of titans there are different scales, which however are not indicated in a classical way (for example 1: 200), but are classified with names (for example Epic Scale or Adeptus scale). Please could you explain to me the main scales of the models which are they and what are the differences? Panzer
Epic is an old game from Games Workshop and uses 6mm scale models. Adeptus Titanicus is a newer game from Games Workshop with just titans and knights and uses 8mm scale models iirc. Whitelion
ok thanks, but 6-8mm scale models iirc, what 6-8 mm? Is the thickness of base? Midlight
That would be the approximate height of a human analogue in scale Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359064-different-type-of-scale-models/#findComment-5404323 Share on other sites
Slasher956
ok thanks, but 6-8mm scale models iirc, what 6-8 mm? Is the thickness of base? to expand... x mm scale models means an average human will be that many mm from base (or feet) to the eyes (or top of the head)* *yes this means you can get several different size models all in the same 'scale'... dont even get started on the difference between heroic and true scale ..... these two links can help explain better than I can http://theminiaturespage.com/ref/scales.html https://normanminiatures.wordpress.com/miniature-scales/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359064-different-type-of-scale-models/#findComment-5404328 Share on other sites
Panzer
8mm is something between 1:200 and 1:270 depending on the average height you set for a man iirc. Exilyth
The scales for (most of) GWs game systems are as follows: 54mm (1:30): Inquisitor (OOP) 28mm (~1:58): Wh40k, AoS (resp. WHFB), Necromunda, Warhammer Quest, Blackstone Fortress, Warcry, Kill Team, Space Hulk (OOP), Gorka Morka (OOP) ... 8mm (1:200): Adeptus Titanicus, Aeronautica Imperialis 6mm (~1/285): Epic (OOP) unknown (to me): Battlefleet Gothic (OOP, I don't know if the spaceship models are to scale or just approximation), Dreadfleet (OOP, naval battles in Warhammer Fantasy), Warhammer Historicals (OOP, not sure if it's 28mm) * OOP = out of print/production, no longer produced/available Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359064-different-type-of-scale-models/#findComment-5404498 Share on other sites
Whitelion
Thank you very much, you have been very clear. But .... 1:30? seriously? But on an Adeptus scale of 1: 200, isn't a warlord 56 cm tall? When they play war games do they do it in the football field? Cryptix
Here's the thing, scales for miniatures are measured based either on how tall a 6ft human would be in that scale OR what 1 inch equals in that scale. So for 1:30/54mm, 6ft = 54 inches, and a 6ft man would be about 2.4 inches. Meanwhile, in 1:200, 1 inch actually represents 200 inches in scale, so a 6ft man would be 0.36 inches tall. That's why everything is much smaller in adeptus scale. mughi3
BFG is not to scale, the ships are just representations, as per the rules for the game- the tip of the stem of the base is actually the size of the ship due to the vastness of space. so a 15km long ship is roughly the size of a pin head. the models themselves are in something a bit different. its in the 1/thousands. ERJAK
Thank you very much, you have been very clear. But .... 1:30? seriously? But on an Adeptus scale of 1: 200, isn't a warlord 56 cm tall? When they play war games do they do it in the football field? It's a fantasy game. No one cares if the scaling is 'correct'. That's why they call it 'adeptus' not '1:200'.
