What should we consider for list building for ITC?

The ITC format is very different from the standard GW missions, and one should adapt one's list to its scoring system.

I'm very curious about what others think of this!

So how do you do it?

  1. How do you design your list for secondary objectives?
Of course, choosing secondary objectives depends on the opponent, but you can make some considerations in list building to make certain objectives easier.
  2. How do you design your list to achieve primary objectives?
How do you get a kill turn 1? Which units do you bring to hold points? Which units take points?
  3. Which units do you avoid in ITC?
Perhaps they give away points too easily, or perhaps their purpose doesn't fit those mission types.
  4. Which units are our best in ITC?
E.g.: Infantry can hide safely in the lowest level of ruins (and charge from them), and that may make them more valuable than in GW missions. We can also outflank our infantry.

I look forward to hearing your good ideas.

1. Bring enough ranged firepower to reach out and kill a target.  So in standard GW I may bring a pure melee list, I won't do that in ITC.  Also, design the list to not give up ITC secondaries: bring 3 tanks, but never 4; 3 HQ's; Warlord with 5 wounds; etc.

2. Same as above, bring ranged firepower, bring some objective sitters, and bring mobile units to grab other objectives.  To not give up primary missions, spam storm shields so that your things die slow.  This makes it hard to get Kill One and harder to get Kill More.

3. Long Fangs.  Great in GW missions, they give up Marked for Death in ITC, require line of sight, and are incredibly fragile at T4 1W 3+ save.

4. Wulfen, Smash Wolf Lords, Gunships, Intercessors.

at least one of the new primaris vanguard units should be in your list

i suggest infiltrators

they fill a battalion troop tax and give infiltration to secure an objective if deployment is bad

as for killing turn 1 it depends what your opponent does. i prefer going 2nd so he is coming at me. i build lists focused on defense so i can take a hit

if you rely on going 1st they can throw a wrench in your plans by hiding or seizing

if you want guaranteed kills think ignore LOS or strong long range or even a drop pod suicide unit

Muzzles. (Just joking!)

I would say it depends entirely on the type of list you're building. Do you want multiple flyers? Do you want to assault the enemy with your entire force? Are you going for area denial?

Space Wolves have a LOT of options that can be put to some really unique and good uses. I have not looked too much into the Space Wolves for years but I know from games I've watched that they have some really strong units that are very viable in the current shooting focused meta.

Thanks for the thoughts!

So, ranged, but not Long Fangs. What would you suggest?

Good to hear.

Which units have you seen?

I like Stormwolf/Stormfang gunships.  They provide a lot of fire on a decent body.  Stormwolfs also transport a lot of dudes if you need to do that.  If you want smaller/cheaper units, Inceptors and Aggressors have good anti-chaff capabilities.  For anti-tank, there isn't really a better option than a gunship, unless you want to go with a Venerable Dreadnought with Missile Launcher and Twin Lascannon.

This list did pretty well:

The three units of Wulfen looked to be the hard hitters of the list.

Intercessors and Infiltrators are good objective holders at the moment,

That is a bad list.  It cannot counter Eldar Fliers or Hordes.  That articles doesn't list his match-ups, but they had to be favorable for him to go 4-1.  I'm guessing he faced a lot of Marines.
