BrainFireBob
Greetings Frater. I was playing around with Battlescribe during work today- does the Dreadclaw Drop Pod Assault rule allow the same turn 1 shenanigans that the loyalists now get? I see no restriction on dropping Turn 1; the rule specifies "at the end of any of your movement phases, deploy no closer than 9"", just like the loyalist version. Did I miss an update, or is there something Battlescribe isn't updating, or does Chaos finally have a comparable drop pod? Gederas
Nope. We don't get Turn 1 Drop Pods, because..... Reasons Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359198-dreadclaw-drop-pods-drop-pod-assault/#findComment-5407496 Share on other sites
BrainFireBob
Which rule? As I said, at work, and the wordings are the same Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359198-dreadclaw-drop-pods-drop-pod-assault/#findComment-5407500 Share on other sites
MegaVolt87
Which rule? As I said, at work, and the wordings are the same Yeah, just checked myself, wording is pretty much the same between the index and the 2.0 SM dex. Well, whats the problem then? Well its 200pts without guns and takes up a a FA choice. I think you would be better off with the termite drill honestly. CrystalSeer
The rules for how many units can be in reserve and when they can come in are all in the BRB/FAQ/CA. SM drop pods are given specific exception to these; dreadclaws are not. BrainFireBob
Exception to percent of army. I am asking if they can alpha strike, based on their drop pod rule Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359198-dreadclaw-drop-pods-drop-pod-assault/#findComment-5407558 Share on other sites
CrystalSeer
Exception to percent of army. I am asking if they can alpha strike, based on their drop pod rule Basic matched play rule is no deep-strike (Alpha-strike) on T1. So without an expressly written rule, have to wait until T2 and follow all the other restrictions. BrainFireBob
Instead of deploying this model with the rest of your army, you can set it up, alogn with any units embarked within it, in orbit, ready for a Drop Pod Assault If you do so, it can make a Drop Pod Assault at the end of any of your Movement phases. When it does so, set it up anywhere on the battlefield that is more than 9" from any enemy models. Any models embarked inside must immediately disembark, but they cannot be set up within 9" of any enemy models. Tyriks
Literally every deep strike rule says that. They cannot come in turn 1 unless they are given explicit permission to do so. BrainFireBob
"Any of your movement phases" means *any,* which is why I am asking for the specific reference Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359198-dreadclaw-drop-pods-drop-pod-assault/#findComment-5407873 Share on other sites
GreaterChickenofTzeentch
"Any of your movement phases" means *any,* which is why I am asking for the specific reference Tactical Reserves, September FAQ Update, pg. 3, paragraph 2. "Furthermore, in matched play games, units that are not placed on the battlefield during deployment in order to arrive on the battlefield mid game as reinforcements cannot arrive on the battlefield during the first battle round." When this was a beta rule it was described as a new blanket rule overriding specific datasheets unless exempted. Drop Pods have an exemption that names this specific rule ("Tactical Reserves"). MegaVolt87
Drill would still be better than current dredclaw IMO. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359198-dreadclaw-drop-pods-drop-pod-assault/#findComment-5408141 Share on other sites
Khornestar
It SHOULD work on turn 1, as should the kharybdis, but should is a funny thing, and FW units don't really get the same kind of attention since they're more of an afterthought. Jolemai
Bear in mind that there are three "game modes" of 40k: Open Play, Narrative Play, Matched Play. The rules on the Datasheet says how the model deploys and this is what happens in Open and Narrative. Matched Play deployment from "Reserves" is modified by the above post by Greater Chicken. GodEmperorOfMankind
So open play and narrative play you can, matched play in 8th you can't. Or come battle in Age of Darkness and fight the legions of the false emperor in the name of the Warmaster! We can Drop Pod Assault with Dreadclaws there: https://whc-cdn.games-workshop.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Horus-Heresy-Drop-Pods-Errata-v1.0.pdf Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359198-dreadclaw-drop-pods-drop-pod-assault/#findComment-5409008 Share on other sites
