MithrilForge
Heya, I got extremely lucky and got at a greatly reduced price from a FLGS on the "Blood of the Phoenix" boxset a mate and i have gone halves and i ended up getting the Drukhari Dark Eldar half.... my question is simple... what should i get for starters to make it a legal Battalion Detachment... would 2 boxes of Kabalites and an Archon & a Succubus be a good start?.. and what size should you normally run kabalite squads at ?.. thanx in Advance for any answers... cheers, Mithril Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359255-botp-boxset-dark-eldar-contents-what-else-is-needed/ Share on other sites
Halandaar
Something to bear in mind is that if you stick Wych Cult units and Kabalite units in the same detachment, then neither can benefit from the Cult or Kabal "obsession" rules (the DE equivalent of Chapter Tactics) - each detachment has to be purely one or the other for the rules to apply. Adding an Archon and 3 units of Kabalite Warriors will give you a usable Batallion (with Drazhar as the other HQ), but the Hellions from Blood of the Phoenix will need to be fielded in a separate detachment otherwise they will prevent you from using a Kabal Obsession. Unless you plan on running them as an Auxillary detachment (don't), you'll need some Wyches and either a Succubus or Lelith Hesperax to get yourself a valid Wych Cult Patrol. (Scourges and Incubi are both considered "mercenary" type units, so you can put them in any detachment and they don't prevent your other units from gaining the Obsession rules, even though they do not benefit from them.) MithrilForge
Thanks for that!, it’s given me a bit to think about..a simple force won’t as simple as I thought :-D Looks like GW has invented ways to sell more models it seems !!... back to the drawing board then... Again thanks for the insight , Cheers, Mithril Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359255-botp-boxset-dark-eldar-contents-what-else-is-needed/#findComment-5409287 Share on other sites
Dread
Don't let that dishearten you. My list I play is a 2 archon kabal. 3 units of 10 warriors kitted out, 2 or 3 ravagers, incubi, raiders and venoms. My other list is Wyched out and has destroyed several armies including primarius, chaos, ad mech, space puppies and honestly the hardest one, orks. Paying attention to the objectives is a good help as well. So, depending on points, running 2 detachments gives you what you need. Don't give up on them. MithrilForge
Thanks for the responses , i started looking at my mates Drukhari Dark Eldar dex last night so i'm getting to understand it a bit better... i think i'll definitely be running 2 detachments - Kabal (flayed Skull) Incubi with this lot and also a Wych cult (Red Grief) ... but how do the scourges and hellions fit into the mix?... cheers, Mithril Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359255-botp-boxset-dark-eldar-contents-what-else-is-needed/#findComment-5410357 Share on other sites
Dread
Hellions are wyches on sky boards, reaver on bikes. They get the combat drugs. Scourges don't get a benefit from Kabal or cult or combat drugs, they're kinda of upper class dark Eldar but you don't lose anything from taking them. Set up right they can be a free heavy support choice that takes up a different slot. Also take a look at the Kabal of the black heart and it's specific artifact. Cult of the cursed blade. You may find them a bit more interesting. I guess i could, since i'm doing my own colour scheme it won't matter what Kabal i choose to use at any time i do want to make an airwing of razorwings (i love that model) do they work well with the Black heart?... cheers, Mithril Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359255-botp-boxset-dark-eldar-contents-what-else-is-needed/#findComment-5410406 Share on other sites
ThePenitentOne
To answer the original question, if you bought the start collecting box, you'd have a decent wych cult. You can take an air wing detachment with obsidian rose to get more range but BH I think is better for the better saving chance. As for the razorwings, I have 4 and love them. MithrilForge
Thanks guys, my mate gave me a box of wyches for free since we got the big book with the boxset (i let him keep the book ) and i just got a box of kabalite warriors yesterday, it would seem i'm off to a good start ...best sort out the scheme and start trimming and gluing!! in between painting AI and my Iron Ravens as a side note, on the Incubi frame there are some wicked cool bare heads for making Ynarri incubi (which i won't do) so i'm using them on Kabalite Sybarite's ...we'll see how they go Cheers, Mithril Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359255-botp-boxset-dark-eldar-contents-what-else-is-needed/#findComment-5411295 Share on other sites
Halandaar
Another thing is that you can get +4CP for running 3 Drukhari Patrol Detachments, in case you wanted to run different Kabals and a Cult under the same list (or Kabal/Cult/Coven). Not to say it's the most efficient, but it's a cool way to play a thematic army without being completely penalised on CP. Karhedron
Agreed. A Haemonculus coven with a Haemonculus, 1 unit of Wracks and unit of 3 Talos (Taloi?) with the THE PROPHETS OF FLESH Obsession will add some hefty muscle to your list. That is, if you want to go for the 3 Patrols approach. MithrilForge
Thanks for the idea's people I Know i'm hobbling myself but i'm avoiding haemonculus Covens etc...that side of the Dark Eldar doesn't interest me thematically and especially visually .... it'll just be Kabalites and wyches for me... i could run 2x kabalite and 1 wych... cheers, Mithril Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359255-botp-boxset-dark-eldar-contents-what-else-is-needed/#findComment-5412095 Share on other sites
Halandaar
To be honest I don't own any Coven stuff for similar reasons (I don't mind the visuals but I think they seem completely at odds with the rest of the range), and I've run 2x Kabalite and 1x Wych Patrols a few times.
