I want two. One for the battlefield and one to just carry around with me and ward off evil and dark angels players.

That aside, my hype just jumped an order of magnitude. If it's a rendering of that original artwork. Oh my.

That might just make me paint all my Primaris BA red after all.

The rule changes for him are honestly only secondary for me. He's one of my favourite characters and his rules already are decent, so what I'm really interested in is mainly the new model and what crossing the Rubicon Primaris means for his background.

I'm interested to see what it means too. We know he's been searching for a way to stabilise himself because the amount of power in him was literally getting out of control.

I wonder if this is how they'll have him fix that issue? We know primaris have half the God maker organ that primarchs apparently have so maybe that sorts it.

Wonder if the new novel (city if light) is set before or after the events that will be covered in the pa3

I've also started messing about with ideas for running him again :)

Well, your loss! I'm excited for mephiston regardless of primaris or not! Though I admit its probably easier for me as I do infact like primaris

Out of interest, if we see some other stuff that fits a more traditional BA theme, such as an assault unit, maybe a sanguinary priest or sanguinary guard. Would your view change?

I’m excited for Mephiston - I like primaris given the models but hate the fluff.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s going make much difference to Mephiston (but I accept I never really used him in a transport). His model will probably be one of the few that fits with both primaris and regular marines.

I doubt it.  I have around 5,000 points of oldmarines investment, half of which is waiting to be painted, that will be inevitably invalidated by GW (which for me includes becoming too inefficient to play even if rules do exist) so I find further investing in my BA army to be a total waste of time.  They are a display piece now.

I mean...yea, inevitably. But probably not for 5-10 years. They aren’t gonna completely alienate their fan base - but they also have a fiduciary obligation to continue to grow as a company. It’s kind of like those bitter folks who burned their fantasy armies when AoS was announced - but GW are still pushing rules for oldhammer. No one came to their pity party, and they probably won’t come to yours either. Edited by keeblerartillery

Fair enough, at least you can take enjoyment from painting the rest. I kinda get it, I had about 12k of classic marines and found them quite jarring compared to the new stuff. I sold mine to help fund house stuff that was needed. Deciding to just keep the primaris stuff.

It's not a pity party, it's just that Primaris don't mesh well with my army a good half of which are 2e/3e metal figures.  An intercessor next to the old metal Terminator Captain looks like they belong in two different games.  Hell, they look like they belong in different games when next to 3e tactical squads.  I have a good investment in my BA and I will make the best of it by modeling and painting the old marines I have.  I just don't feel like starting over again with Primaris and painting red all my life.  I do buy Primaris from time to time, not to build an army list or anything, but stuff I find interesting, which is sparse to be honest -  a large portion of Primaris models rub me wrong.  I am painting them as Imperial Fists though.

Nice with a new Mehpiston! he is a running emme here since he has a striking resemblence with a Swedish magician (who has been performing in Las Vegas etc He´s pretty good - Joe Labero). And back in the 90s that dude had long, blone hair.. So similar then. I kinda expect Mephison to do funny tricks on Baal, pulling rabbits out of Dante´s Death Mask and so on..

Might be just me that find it extremely funny though..:teehee::biggrin.:

Will he have fangs?

Also, I'm a little concerned on his new point cost. In my opinion he's currently just about right/just a bit overpriced. I hope he doesn't get too much point increase. All depends on the stats and rules change of course.

The Primaris +1W, +1A are expected.

Well, the only two characters to get Primarized so far got:

- Calgar got +1" M, +1T, +1A, +1W and his aura went from re-roll failed to re-roll all hits (although lost Teleport Strike)

- Tiggy got +1A, +1W, +1 to psychic tests, his rod got an extra 2 AP and his -1 to hit ability works in melee too now.

And they both remained the same point cost. So I'm very curious what they'll give the Lord of Death.

Kor'sarro Khan?

He gained Anzuq, a wound, an attack and they changed how Moonfang works. And, if I'm not mistaken, he's actually cheaper now, at 105 vs. 107 points.

I sold mine to help fund house stuff that was needed.

Never underestimate the power of Warhammer 40,000.

Will he have fangs?

I would certainly hope so.

I'm fairly positive he will be primaris. Question I have though is how will that affect the Daemon in him? Once you go through the Rubicon your supposed to be more resistant to Chaos right? I wonder how this is going to affect him lore-wise and rule-wise.

Edit: His model looks fantastic so far as well.

Rubicon doesn't make you more resistant to chaos.

There probably isn't a daemon in him. The novels have begun to shed more light on him but still no clarity on what exactly happened to him.

Just don't let anyone from the Inquisition see him and you'll be fine. *wink* /me runs over to the Black Templar forums to share the news about Mephie. LOL! :tongue.:

Edit: Yeah I only know what I've read about him on the wikis (Is that the plural form of wiki?). But they seem to say that he was fighting off possession, the black rage and the red thirst all at the same time. Surviving was an incredible result.

I always loved the concept of close combat librarian (BA terminator librarian is one of my favorite models) and I've been wondering how to convert Mephiston for my BA force. The old model is nice, but it didn't aged well IMO. It's been awhile since BA had new models, IIRC the last ones were DC Chaplain and generic Lt with a power sword, so I'm excited to see what this new Mephiston will look like.

He met a demon that tried to persuade him that he is possessed. He destroyed said demon.

In the novels he is aware that he isn't really calistarius anymore. But he doeent know what he is. He swings between legit afraid that his power may have a dark source and believing it may be from sanguinius.

M

My understanding was the daemon/possession angle to Meph was more a mystery/unanswerable question(“how exactly is he so powerful?”) than flat out fact. Has that changed?

^this

It was never confirmed that he's possessed or similar.

It was a concept introduced with a tiny little blurb in the timeline section of the 5e codex. It's never been directly acknowledged outside of the timeline and in the novels nobody seems to believe that's what he is. But mephiston definitely acknowledges that calistarius is dead, telling his old friend (an epistolary) this fact many times over the various mephiston stories.

The whole black inner fire thing sounds very much like a darker version of what primarchs are like (read the ferris manus death scene in fulgrim).

Personally I like the idea that he has indeed effectively unlocked something about the Angel's geneseed
