The canis helix is delivered via the Cup of Wulfen, which was gifted to Russ when he wished to raise his mortal companions to SM's but we're far too old. It is a mutation of theGeneseed changed by the emperor, but it by no means is the original Geneseed. To say that if you don't have the canis helix would discount every SW legionaire pre-cup of Wulfen, and a good part of the legion, as not SW's.

As for Russ and Wulfen, I will let Simon Grant's quote perform the task. It also drives down the difference of the term "curse of the wulfen" and "mark of the wulfen". These are 2 terms used as one but are different and is a residual plague of the older lore being "Wild West" and writers doing whatever they want.

"And if/when Russ returns, he certainly shouldn't be a Wulfen. What most people get confused with is the difference between the Mark of the Wulfen and the Curse of the Wulfen. The Mark is more to do with Russ’ genetic legacy, so you can have Blood Claws that grow canines worthy of a Long Fang, and warriors that are more hirsute, or grow enormous in size (like Haegr and Ranulf the Strong). The Curse of the Wulfen is more of a spiritual curse that originated with Wulfen himself."

Edit: I should have said this at the start, but as my chapter is on the other side of the rift it would be impossible to get recruits. Until GW explain the process of SW successors getting recruits without the cup of Wulfen and Fenrisians, then to remove it is the only choice. We are once again tied to the sins of yesteryears writers. It was a cool niche when 40k was a setting that was stagnate. We are now a story.

Ok I guess my confusion was you wanting the canis helix removed which IS Russ's geneseed, so I believe you were only referring to the curse of the wulfen part of it?

Lore aside the wulfen are awesome elite units, that go really well with other units or alone and quickly into the heart of the enemy t decimate them. certainly don't want the canis helix fixed to the point I cannot use them anymore and to digress back into the lore a little yes they may have lost a little self control but they are still loyal to their brothers.

Yes, the wulfen part is gone. I use the wulfen rules, except they are my huskarls, the elite guard. They are those with exceptional prowess in combat, then have finely tuned and customized armor that use techniques from IH and Sallies to produce. Wolf Guard never really seemed elite to be elite guard, they have plenty of weapon options but lack the stats. The BA elite guard had a extra wound, and I think a extra strength and attack. However the wulfen fulfill that niche very well.

Oh yeah agreed and the DA terminators have strategems which make them devastating and unique wepons. yes the wulfen come be good terminator but their save is rubbish so need some with thunder hammers and storm shields but don't want too many as these are less effective agaiunst horde units.

Can you confirm your source for the Canis Helix not being an integral part of the geneseed from the get go?

Whilst keeping up to speed on BL works that touch on the VI, I've only been doing 30K for some years and may have missed something from a 40K codex
