Best or must have non primaris.

What to collect mostly primaris(Phobos) but I understand that leaves wholes in the army and space wolves have some of the best non primaris units of all the chapters. I already plan on getting 10 Wulfen for two 4 man units with thunder hammers and shield combo with great axes, but how do the other units far? Are thunder wolf riders any good? Any other unit to look at?

Thanks

They do, but I’m asking about non primaris. I love the primaris models and it’s most of my wolves army so far, just bout 2 boxes of incursors to make 4x5man squads with mines. Then Wulfen and aggressors for melee punch followed up with some eliminators and characters.

Rune Priests seem really good on paper. Just got my first one built this week, so I'm hoping to get some real life testing done sooner rather than later. I'm just starting to put together a Space Wolf army myself, so I have relatively little hard experience to help out here.

How has everyone found the dreads? Murderfang? Wulfen? Venerables with Shield/Axe? I know Bjorn is awesome.

I can add that I have a Redemptor, and the one game I played he absolutely tore apart another Ven Dread, and then contributed heavily through shooting for the remainder of the game, leading to a tabling of the other team.

Looking forward to everyone else's responses here!

JP rune priests have been consistent performers for me. Keep them safe and watch how Smite and LL rules the late game. Leviathan is great, Iron priests are great, wulfen obviously. Dreads are fun but i cant be objective about them since i love them so much. I will say Relic Contemptors are super solid.

Wulfen dreads really benefitted from Angels of Death and look primed for a wargear points drop in Chapter Approved

So did TWC but they need a drop too

Apologies for tangent but Id say try to go Thunder Hammer only as much as possibke for Wulfen

As of right now I would say wulfen and leviathans. Rune priests are good as the have options primaris don't. However if your are running a rune priests on foot might as well get a primaris rune priest.

Stormfangs and dreads are also good but I think need a slight point drop to be "mandatory". The ven dreads SS save made them less durable than expected. TWC also fall into this category.

I am not a fan of any of our HQs, except Bjorn. He's a beast IF you can get him into combat and not shot up by anti-tank or mass-small arms fire.

I love my Long Fangs for fire support. Built-in rerolls of 1s to-Hit and then drop Wolf's Eye and/or Keen Senses to make sure they hit their targets and damage sticks. Not a glamourous unit but they consistently deliver the goods.

How do you guys feel on Grey Hunters vs Blood Claws? Especially if running with Wulfen?

Seems like it depends on the role they’d play in your list. I view grey hunters as cheapish allrounders/objective campers. I see blood claws as cheap aggressive chaff clearers.

What do you feel you are short of? What enemies are you likely to face? Are you likely to play for objectives or kill points?

Long Fangs, and some more Long fangs. I use all kinds of dreads, but shield dreads almost never disappoint me. I always bring some sort of rune priest, I don't have any primaris one. One of my work horses is a hb razorback, and I very very seldom do not bring Bjorn. I rarely use Blood claws, but I always bring one or two squads of Grey hunters.

I always found regular shield dreads to be too slow

Wolf Guard Pack Leaders in terminator armour with stormshields are just plain beautiful. Ive had people unload a Storm Raven into long fangs and watch in horror as theres 5 lascannons still pointing at them

A Wolf Lord with Thunder Hammer, Storm Shield, and the Wulfen Stone has been amazing for me. He can kill almost anything in a turn - especially with the Seeking a Saga stratagem. With the advance & charge warlord trait, he is also very fast. I run 2 when I can.

I still have a fondness for Thunderwolf Cavalry. They're too expensive, but they're very durable with storm shields. I've recently kitted mine out in units of 4-6, the pack leader gets a thunder hammer and storm shield, while the rest but 1 also get shields. They dish out a lot of attacks.

I wish they would learn to climb.

I agree with using Long Fangs. They're amazingly efficient, and a Terminator Pack Leader is certainly worth it to protect them. Although I do consider sending a unit without a pack leader in a drop pod to get an advanced position turn 1.

I agree that Bjorn is amazing on paper, but I think he's too expensive. He is too slow to be a great melee unit, and he lacks an invulnerable save - he needs it for the things he should be pointed at.

Murderfang has been a poor-man's Bjorn for me a few times. He is about as efficient in combat, but is also slow and lacks defense. They're both fun, though.

I want to run Razorbacks. I love relatively quick and cheap transport & cannon tanks. However, they're my only tanks, so they make it easier for my opponent to optimize their targeting. The rest of my army more or less all have storm shields, so most anti-tank guns aren't very efficient against me.

When it comes to Bjorn. Always remember that he is a character, the reason I use razorbacks really, one is usually enough to babysit him. The Razorback is most often is empty, sure you can use a rhino as a babysitter, but if you can get to shot a couple of shots it is always good. Shield dreads is my other option as babysitter for him, more expensive but if they get into close combat there is very little that can survive the slaughter, shield dreads are more durable than a razorback or rhino with their fnp but  so much more expensive. Wulven dreads are in between Shield dreads and Razorbacks, they have the same speed as Bjorn, 8 is not slow, but their lack of fnp make them less durable, but still more durable than a razorback.

I agree with the TWC, that they are a bit to expensive, I just don't use them.

When it comes to grey hunters, the reason I use them is that I feel they are more versatile compared to primaris, chuck in flamer/plasma and a power fist, plus a kitted wolf guard inside a rhino and they are a unit that is a good objective taker which also can bite back, Sure an equal sized Intercessor unit have twice as many wounds. Oh and I do have loads of them so that is also a reason I use them.

Blood claws are insane when when it come to the charge with the amount of attacks, but with only bolt pistols i do not use them, i rather use sky claws supported with a character of some sort.

I have not used any ground vehicles except Razorbacks and Rhinos, because the other ones are to expensive. I wish I could use my Land raiders, but I don't think any one of them has seen a table in ten years. And the same I have to say about my predators. I like them, but they are not really that good for the point they cost.

Then we have my FW stuff, Sicaran and Leviathans becomes bullet magnets as soon as they show their faces on the battle field, which is ok as they are fairly durable and when they are getting shot at something else is not getting shot at. My Contemptors are hated, as they always manage to eat more points than I paid for them. I usually field them cc style, and they most often hang out with Bjorn. The FW stuff I mostly only use when we have larger battles.

I kinda like Murderfang: 8 attacks in the charge (which he can rerol), then 2+ to hit, Str 12 with reroll, ap -3 and damage flat 3. not nearly as durable as bjorn but cheaper and a higher damage output. Just need to make sure he gets to the enemy!

Added benefit of having less of the reputation of Bjorn so more likely to be underestimated by opponents

- Long fangs with missile launchers are great. You can protect them with a WGBL in Termi Armor and storm shield.

- 2 units of wulfen will tear your enemy  a new one :biggrin.: Go with 4x TH/SS and WC on the leader. Drop them in via command point on turn 2.

- Storm wolf /fang is a great weapons platform and quite durable

- rune priest is worth the points, also Njal Stormcaller worked great for me and brought home his points.

about Dreads:

- Bjorn is awesome, kills absolutely everything big in CC, watch out for chaff. And protect him on the way by hiding behind other units. Can be combined with Axe/shield ven dread and Iron priest. But very slow moving unit.

Hope this helps ;)

You’d rely on “on the hunt” for the wulfen rather than storm wolf?

(Just planning on how to use mine. I was thinking of 8 in a stormwolf) (and a jump wolf lord following behind)

I just picked up a used storm wolf and storm fang from eBay. I see zero reasons to take grey hunters but blood claws seem to get an extra attack for some cheaper points and maybe filling up a storm wolf with them and a priest.

Stormwolf is a great option too, but it is one hell of a target for your enemy. Worst case he kills it in his first turn and your wulfen are left stranded. On the hunt creates more uncertainty for the enemy and you can use it for two (bigger) units as well.

Just what I prefer, but your idea with the jump lord can also work out well. More risky imho..
