IG Assault squad weapons

No I am not making an hand to hand guard army. But in my pure infantry I am trying to decide for my two maneuver battalions(as opposed to the fire support brigade which sits still) whether a power sword and flamer in each squad is worth it over a grenade launcher. These are the squads that are actively moving to the objectives. Its a few more points so I would drop a line squad reducing both my battalions to 3 squads each + plus a plasma storm trooper squad. Also at this point I am considering merging the two platoons and just taking a tempestus battalion, <regiment> battalion and brigade.

Flamers are great, as are grenade launchers - both excellent choices for mobile squads. The latter in particular is cheap and versatile :) I'm with duz in that the power sword is not going to do much sadly so those points are likely better spent elsewhere.

I've never really had any joy with flamers. I suppose I'm cheap and want to fire a weapon most turns if I've spent points on it. I use cadians infantry squads to do the sitting still and shooting job. I equip them with a sniper rifle and either a lascannon or missile launcher. I use steel legion infantry squads bare for mass volley firing. But I back them up with special weapons squads with plasma and a command squad with grenade launchers.

My list uses Mordian(they are Praetorians) and I use lascannon/plasma as my firebase infantry with ML/GLx3 vet squads and autocannon heavy support squads to form my stationary back line. In my current list I have 5 or 6 infantry squads for foot sloggers. Then I have a 5 squad tempestus battalion as my punch team. I have three plasma squads, a volley gun squad and a full ten man grenade launcher squad. Don't knock the grenade launcher squad, I find them highly effective, low priority target units who quite easily get their points back game after game whose primary job is objective taking and target of opportunity sniping as opposed to the high threat plasma squads who tend to burn out quickly.
