Duke Danse Macabre
When building every DW list I run into the same issue, well same couple of issues but I'll ignore the others for now. The problem I have is trying to afford a useful 3 troop battalion for under 800 points not including hq's. Primaris squads are great in 10 man but cost just shy 300 points, vets are good but need teleporting or transporting, as stock 5 man however they are a bit lack luster. So the question is what is the happy medium, what do people feel is the best bang for your buck and why as the best troop build for our codex that is flexible enough to fill multiple roles, not be made of glass and still be a reasonable threat? For a while after the recent faq I had considered a double battalion of 6, 5 man Primaris squads with auto bolt riles. What do you all rate as your default reliable troop? Black Knight
I usually take 2x squads with stalker bolt rifles and a choice of HB and Missile Launchers for the back field. They are cheap and shouldn't be the focus until later in the game. When Primaris get something more than a Grenade Launcher I will swap them for Intercessor squads. I agree their lack of special and heavy weapons is disappointing. They remind me more of heresy 30k units than 40k. Mr4Minutes
An Aggressor and 8-9 Intercessors with either Assault Bolters or Stalkers is just over (or under for 8) 200 points. It makes both units very mobile and able to fill their role better. Base 5 intercessors is cheap but it always makes me miss the oomph or kill teams are supposed to bring. The loyal 32 are probably the best cheap troops we got. And the 2 can be tank commanders for anti armor. Not the best answer, but it’s a start. Mobius0288
My standard battalion is usually: --Intercessors (regular) --Intercessors (auto) + 1 aggressor --Vets (3xSB/SS, 2xSB/Axe, 1 frag) + 2 termie (LC and SB/PF) + 1 VV (pistol/sword) --Vets (1xCombi-plas, 3xSB/SS, 2xFrag) + 2 Termies (SB/sword) + VV (pistol/chainsword) I'd say if you want to go double battalion, i'd try to use plasma to make up for the lack of anti-vehicle. Missile launchers are also a good choice. It's going to be tough finding a balance of point efficient anti-tank units, but can still stand up against the increased firepower of IH and IF.
