General Strike
So, I want to paint my Nurgle Daemons with a cracked flesh with glowing green underneath, then goop oozing out of the cracks. I was thinking of painting the whole model a bright green color, like warp lightning, then painting the whole model with mordant earth. Does anyone forsee any issues using a paint meant for bases on a model, or has anyone tried it? Bryan Blaire
Well, it seems like it has to dry in the horizontal orientation to get the cracking effect otherwise it will drain down to the base of the model from gravity, so you would probably need to have some way to hold the model still while the paint pools, dries, and cracks. There was a reddit thread where the technique was used to make a magma with black cracking surface effect on a Terminator, so it can be done. Fajita Fan
You might be better off with mixing paint with actual crackle medium. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359701-mordant-earth-on-the-model/#findComment-5420950 Share on other sites

That sounds like exactly what I need to model flesh metal exoskeleton for an IW lord. Kierdale
Using a hair dryer you can get those paints to crackle very soon after applying them to a model :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359701-mordant-earth-on-the-model/#findComment-5421032 Share on other sites
General Strike
My main worry now is that touching the model will damaged the effect and it will eventually lose the crackle. Bryan Blaire
Make sure you varnish appropriately, get it sealed well, and you should be okay. I mean I wouldn't go and start smashing my fingers on the crackle areas, or roughly grabbing the crackle areas, grasping it tight, etc., but if you are just moving it around, etc., you should be good if it is properly sealed. MegaVolt87
Picking up infantry by the base and a varnish, should have no problems. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359701-mordant-earth-on-the-model/#findComment-5421322 Share on other sites
