I've been looking at Death Guard for a while and have decieded to take the plunge and start an army. Looking through the schemes that are in the codex I didn't really like any of them so decided to try my own which left me with this guy:

Still WIP but this really clicked with me and I'm looking forward to getting stuck in. Having played Iron Hands for quite a while now, I'm looking forward to playing an army that is more striped back and relies on the army itself than stratagems and Chapter Tactics.

So far I have: 2 7 man Plague marine squads

1 5 man squad

1 Lord of Contagion

1 Bloat Drone

1 Blight Hauler

I think my general idea with this army is a Rhino rush with a limited amount of pox walkers (really not a huge fan of the models so may use AoS ghouls as replacements) and mostly plague marines doing the ground work. I'm not too sure what to call this warband yet but I'm sure it'll come to me as I get deeper into this. C&C and tips are most welcome :biggrin.:

Just a small update, I tried a different way of painting orange, but I'm not such a big fan of this way of doing it, it's not quite finished yet but I think I prefer the first.

Looking forward to more ochre plague marines!

Thanks man!

Looking really good! Love the orange-flesh color. What are you going to do for the base? I think what you decide for the base is what is going to make the orange really pop. :biggrin.:

I think I'm just going to go for a drag looking base, maybe Astrogranite? IMO the base should be drab and the model should do the popping :biggrin.:

I really like the orangey brown colour - only thing I'm not sold on is the leadbelcher on the back of the legs.

Thanks Dr, I think it works for me because it breaks up the orange a bit and makes sense in-universe wise. I may add some Nihlik (?) oxide to the rivets and gaps on the back.

No hobby updates yet as I've been busy building the reinforcements but I now have:

2 7 man squads with 2 plasma and a blight launcher each

1 5 man with 2 plasma

1 7 man with 2 flails, 4 axes and a sergent with plasma and balesword

1 Bloat drone

1 Blight Hauler

1 Lord of Contagion

1 Tallyman

1 Plague Surgeon

1 Biologus

3 Rhinos from a previous Chaos project

I played my first 2 games with them yesterday and had an absolute blast. The first game was against salamanders at 750 pts, I got stomped but it was a very enjoyable game with my melee squad getting shot to pieces after demolishing a ven dred. The lord of contagion is an absolute beast when you get him in and it's only a shame he doesn't give a re-roll aura but I guess he's a beat-stick rather than a force multiplier. My second game was against 'nids and it was ridiculously close, with my melee marines making their points back at least 3 times over killing a swarmlord, broodlord, 14 genestealers and 15 termigaunts mostly with mortal wounds mind you, from the blades of putrification power.

As I was proxying a plaguecaster for both games (as I really don't like the offical model), I need to convert one I have some ideas for it using the lord discordant model and some other bits but I'll see how that goes. Flails are horrendous and I need more eventually :whistling:

I think I'm just going to go for a DRAG looking base, maybe Astrogranite?

You mean too much make-up and loads of glitter??

They would make absolutely FABULOUS bases

I've finished base coating the first squad of marines, still quite a bit to do on the orange as I'm still highlighting Frie Dragon bright on a lot of them and then all the rest of the details. Slowly but surely I'm getting there:

Highlights mostly done on these guys, you can't see it too much on these pictures:

C&C is very welcome

I've also got my to-do list set up for the army, using the models/units that I think will be fun to paint as the rewards for getting blocks of the less fun units done. Although saying that, I'm loving painting the plague marines so far, they're a lot of fun and a lot of fun to run in games too:

Base them and then play the game!

As you asked for CC, I'd recommend one contrasting color, on some or all of your miniatures. It would go a long way and make that detail pop.

For your orange, maybe a deep dark blue with a bright neon highlight somewhere, lenses? Plasma glow?  I think it would make them pop.

Either way, I love the rusted look, and am eager to see what else you come up with.

Thanks man! I always appreciate feedback, I think blue plasma glow is definitely the way to go and more than likely blue lenses for the marines too. The only issue that I can see is that some of the marine helmets don't have lenses and just have holes, so I may just do a small rim of colour around those that do. I might brighten up the plague knives too have the highlights on raised areas on them a brighter green.

I've gotten the first guy most of the way there and I'm having a lot more fun with it than I thought I would be. As I mentioned above, I need to try to brightening the knife and eye holes. C&C very welcome:

Also converted up a malignant plaguecaster:

The scheme reminds me of cockroaches, which is kind of fitting because Death Guard are so (disgusting and) resilient . So maybe "the Roach" as a name for your warband or something like that?

Thanks Ranulf! Not too sure on the name just yet but I'm thinking something to do with the number 7 and rust :biggrin.:

Ohhhh!!! What about the Simonides Septenary.

Typhus originates from Greek. Simonides is a ancient Greek name.

Septenary sounds awful but it actually means a group or set of seven. Hell if you don't want this I might use it lol. :biggrin.:

The seven-legged rusty roaches then ?

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I think I'm going to go for something like: The Seven Denizens or The Suppurating Seventh, not too  sure just yet

These are looking great and the plaguecaster is very cool! The lilac kind of color makes a nice contrast. Looking forward to seeing more!

Thank you mate!

Your conversion and that last marine look amazing. Very good job. Keep going, can’t wait to see more.

Thanks Brother! I shall deliver now:

Thanks man! Much apprecitated :biggrin.:

I've gotten some more progress done; another squad started (and an extra blight launcher for the first squad), the lord of contagion and the Series 3 Chaos lord.

C&C is always welcome!

Trying to figure out what to do with the nurglings on the Chaos Lord and thought a light blue could work. Not a huge fan tbh, they look more like they're made out of toothpaste. Might go for darker blue, something more akin to Blue Horrors:

Great original colour choice, I think it works really well.

Love your plaguecaster he has the same feel as the Space Marine Heroes one.

If you want the Lord of Contagion to be a force multiplier give him the warlord trait Arch Contaminator to re-roll wounds on plague weapons within 7". Especially if you're already using blades of putrefaction. They will go well together.

Thanks Kraken! I saw someone recently at a tournament with a light brown/not quite orange DG army and something just clicked.

I got the plague surgeon super cheap on eBay (thank you Conquest for suppling dirt cheap DG models!), I played a couple of games with it as a surgeon and didn't like it too much then played a couple of games with it proxying a plaguecaster and realised where I'd been going wrong. I tried getting it to have the same sort of sillouette as the Heroes one as I love the model (not the price), I'm glad it's come across this way!

Blades + Arch Contaminator + Tallyman + Melee marines absolutely ruins everything, I had one game where they walked through pretty much the entire enemy army only losing 3 models. I'm definitely getting more melee marines in the new year and some heavier support in a PBC and some Blight Terminators.
