Keep the lords of rust coming along! Hooray. Very nice.

Thanks Brother!

Great choice of color for the armor. I'm not sold on the blue for nurglings but the color itself looks good.

Looking forward to more of these guys.

Thanks Verux! I agree, they turned out looking like demonic chunks of toothpaste. I went with a darker blue, more akin to Blue Horrors. A couple of things to touch up as I think the one with the flamethrower doesn't have a boil on his front which I'll paint back over. I'm particularily fond of the Nurgling on top of the pipes. C&C very appreciated.

  • 2 weeks later...

Another squad is done and the third and final (so far) squad has been started with decent headway made. I've suprised myself with these to be honest, I haven't fully painted several characters before fully painting full squads, usually I get 1 full squad done before painting several characters. I'm really enjoying these guys but boy do they have a lot of really small details. C&C is always welcome! :biggrin.:

Finally decided on a name: The Rusted Harvest

As yet to decide what that means and what these guys are about just yet but I'll get there as I build these guys up more and play more with them. I am running a narrative campaign in the new year with my mates and will be using these guys so I'll be able to flex my narrative muscles again.

Plans for reinforcements and next year are swilling around in my head as I'm getting a big chunk of this army completed. I want to mostly/entirely finish everything I have first (something I've never actually been able to do in this hobby). The only things I have left to do are:

Finish 3rd squad of marines

Finish Lord of Contagion

Finish Chaos lord

Paint Malignant plaguecaster, demon prince, Tallyman, Foul Blight, Bloat drone and a scuttlebug

I also have 2 of the old Forgeworld MK4 dreads on the way, ebay is really great for grabbing old models that aren't made anymore.

It sounds like quite a lot but model count wise, I've done quite a bit and usually getting the troops done is the thing I struggle with.

My next purchases will be:

More Plague marines probably just another box for now, part of me wants to make these guys into more melee troops but I think I need some more ranged help atm.

Pox walkers, I don't like the offical models at all so I will be getting some AoS Ghouls and modelling some pustules etc, will probably only get 20 to begin with.

Blight lord terminators, I love the look of these guys and I think they'd be a great addition for some extra smallarms firepower, and I love melee marines a lot

Another blight hauler, maybe 2

1 more foetid bloat drone that I will make melee and use the blight launcher bits to convert the monopose one I have. Plague spewers are really not very good IMO.

A few rhinos, I have a few already but these will be used for my Chaos marines when I get round to them.

And a plagueburst crawler, any suggestions on the loadout for this?

I really love melee plaguemarines with axes and flails, as I mostly play against horde armies (orks, nids, guard and necrons) they can really do work with the Blades of Putrification power and Tallyman around. With the BoP power comboed with VoTLW they can really smash through vehicles with just sheer mortal wounds. I'm really loving this army as they're a lot of fun.

Typhus is nearly done, I really enjoyed painting him. I got him from my mate through our Secret Santa in our group and have painted him in two days and absolutely had a blast painting him. C&C is very welcome!

My christmas day was pretty quiet on the family front, so I sat and painted pretty much all day. I finished some bits on Typhus and got the Blight Hawler done bar a wash and drybrush on the base. I also got a new light box which is bigger and has more than one light source so my models look closer to what they do IRL. C&C is always welcome:

More! Quite the army coming along.

What light box do you use? I’d like to get one too.

Thanks man, the lightbox is this one from Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B077HSWCXF/?coliid=I355K64E0SYJH3&colid=2RWMHVODESWH3&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

I managed to get my hands on 2 of the old style MK4 nurgle dreads and they are great, the models are absolutely gorgeous.

I decided to change up my flesh scheme to purple which really pops, I'm really liking how this dread came out (the colours on the visor looks way better IRL, I didn't get the light quite right):

The old FW Dreads for Nurgle/DG are great !  I've a few myself but two are glued up with melee - I wish I hadn't and had made them partable so I can switch to LasC too!

Keep up the great work for the DG!

Thanks man! They're lovely and managed to snag them off of eBay on the cheap too, they're really good in game too being able to ignore the heavy penalty

Terminators are looking great!

Thanks Verux!

Oh man, that is some amazing stuff. I love your color choice. I’m such a sucker for traditional colors, so all mine are the box art colors, but that orange is great!

Thank you my dude, they're a lot of fun to paint to be honest and totally different to everything else I've ever done. The traditional colours are great and look incredible when done well IMO

Awesome color choice and original, looks very cool. I did not like your nurglings color choice when you first did them, however by making them darker they look quite cool now and look good with your color choices. Great looking army.

You lucky bugger getting hold of those MK4 dreadnoughts they make Helbrutes look so awful and cartoony by comparison. Love the colour scheme!

Haha, very true I am very fortunate to get my grubby hands on them. I think that if I hadn't have been able to get a hold of these dreadnoughts I would have had to either not use any helbrutes or fasttrack my GS skills. I really don't like the helbrute models

Thank you  mate, I painted them the first time and thought they looked like toothpaste demons, all they were missing was the red stripe :biggrin.:

I do really prefer the dark blue, it's contrast enough with the orange but it's super bright like the lens or plasma.

With the new year here I've gotten together some New Years hobby resolutions:

1. Finish painting my DG before buying anything else. I'm really loving painting these guys, they're a lot of fun to play too

2. Learn how to sculpt with GS, I have the perfect models to attempt this on with some AoS Crypt ghouls that I need to Nurgle up to make Pox Walkers

3. Sell off an downsize the armies I don't use/won't be using anytime soon.

4. Play in at least 3 tournaments, at least 1 of those with a melee focused DG list. Melee DG are hilariously fun and not at all competitive but I really don't mind

5. Complete an Armies on Parade board, giving myself more than 4 days to complete it in :whistling:

So with that in mind, I'm still plowing ahead with my Blight Lords. I'm taking my time with these guys as they're really centrepiece infantry for me and there are some many small details. I haven't had the chance to play a game with my DG since mid December  but have a 1250 pt game on Thursday with the stuff I've painted so far, bar a bloat drone with fleshmower which I haven't started yet.

On the melee focused list, my dream since playing this army has been to run a 20 man PM squad all with knives and a couple of flails and charge them around the board. It's expensive and needs a good few buffs but I think it could do work. That's for another time though, maybe one day when I have all my current models done :biggrin.:

I like what your doing, still waiting on you to finish that DP.

When it comes to your melee unit, I have run pretty much every combo of weapons and I have found that bolter/knife combo with flails/blight launchers works best for me. I run 2 squads in rhinos w/support characters. Now, with Hateful Assault, I get plenty of melee attacks and have them being able to make ranged attacks has been beneficial. Before that I was running dual knives and relying on blight bombardment for ranged damage, now it's a bonus (a really good one at that). Plus it gives you a reason to show off some rhinos, can't wait for those too.

Now from a modeling perspective I recommend knife and bubotic axes, the rule of cool. I have a unit of 7 to go with the flails and Champion w/plague sword. One of my favorite units play wise and looks, but again not as effective in a tournament setting. I do take them in all my other games. And I still want/need to paint up my maces and cleaver.

Thanks man! The demon prince is on his way once I figure out how I'm going to greenstuff his belly. I've never really used GS before so I think I'll be doing the poxwalkers first to make sure I actually know what I'm doing :whistling: My general idea with the Poxwalkers is to create patches of greenstuff on the Crypt Ghoul models and then push in very small balls ( can't remember what these are called, they're used for clothes I think) in while it's still wet  to make boils and pustules. It could work, it might not. May as well give it a go.

I got some more colour on the Plaguecaster, he's not there yet but really liking the look of him so far he's looking very Palpatine esque. C&C is very welcome on him, I still need to find a staff topper for him

They look fantastic! For the Mephitic Blight Haulers (I just finished my third) I clipped every post during assembly to reduce those horrible gaps. My apologies if this has already been addressed. They look amazing though. Love the colors.

I have a question on the infantry. I see you painted the rims of the shoulder pads a dark blue/black, was there a specific reason you didn't carry that over to the collars around the necks and the openings at the knees? I did it, and it's a pain in the butt to do, but I like the contrast and speration. Did you try it and not like it or just didn't want to do it? I almost didn't do it but I was glad I did. For example on the GW plain Jane colors it's the brass between the greens.

P.s. Love the colors and conversions.

GW push is a great idea but if you forget that the posts are airtight, any small amount of glue will stop the pieces going together. I didn't make the same mistakes on the other two thankfully but I really should have pulled it apart and sorted it out. I will go back and sort it as, you're right it does look pretty horrible

Thank you dude!

I was recommended to do it and gave it a go on the Plaguecaster as tbh, I'd never really thought about it. I will for sure go back and do it on my infantry because it really helps break up the colour and looks pretty great. Thank you Choir!

I had a great couple of games with my DG over the weekend and had a blast. My melee PM squad wiped a 30 man orks squad with some lucky rolling combined with Blades of Putrification. I've built 20 poxwalkers using the AoS ghouls and was going to greenstuff some boils etc but the models look pretty ace as is at the moment. I was going to do grey skin as in this tutorial from WHC:

Not sure if it'll be too much grey with the astrogranite bases. I also got some snow which I'll be adding to all the bases to liven them up a bit. I'll post progress pictures as I go

Haven't checked in for a little while. You've been making loads of progress.

That Plague caster has come out really wellat job.

I look forward to you painting up your Fly Daemon prince too, I did a similar model myself a while back.

Thanks a lot KDC, much appreciated especailly coming from you

I will get round to the Demon prince once I've finished the blightlords, the melee PM squad and at least another rhino. I'm getting there!:whistling:

I've started on the poxwalkers and they're coming out looking pretty great IMO with only about 45 mins per model painting time. C&C always welcome:
