Kolgrim DeathHowl
Do you guys use anything special when you're finished painting to kind of like seal the paint in, or protect it? I'm finding some of the more metal models the tips tend to rub off on a few of my mini's. Gederas
Do you guys use anything special when you're finished painting to kind of like seal the paint in, or protect it? I'm finding some of the more metal models the tips tend to rub off on a few of my mini's. That's just what happens with metal models. If you want to prevent that happening, you need to use SEVERAL layers of varnish (glass>matte>gloss>matte). And even then, the paint may STILL chip off the metal models  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359762-what-do-you-use-when-you-are-finished-painting/#findComment-5422456 Share on other sites
Vykes
Ugh, Gederas is right about that: metals just kinda do that. Even the multi layers won't 'solve' it completely. As for me, Liquitex varnishes through an airbrush. When I'm feeling professional: Gloss-->Matte-->matte (with the understanding that I also tend to start weathering and inking with a gloss coat of varnish). And occassionally that second matte coat will be the ever-amazing Testors Dullcoat. Then alcohol. I mean on me, not the model. It's essential. Read it in a medical journal somewhere: it was near the back. Kolgrim DeathHowl
Maybe I'll just keep touching the few metal ones up til I get better at painting. Bryan Blaire
Metallics get two or three coats of gloss varnish (matte in the shadowed areas), jewels/gems get the same, all other paint gets a coat of gloss and then two coats of matte (sometimes this can change the colors a little bit). Do you guys use anything special when you're finished paintingI prefer to use a couple 8 oz glasses of Danish mjød when I'm done with a squad (and sometimes a few during). Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/359762-what-do-you-use-when-you-are-finished-painting/#findComment-5422478 Share on other sites
