So I did a thing where I painted up a sister. The Amalia Novena miniature to be specific.

Actually started on her quite a while ago, but due to some unfortunate clumsiness on my part, i managed to glue damage some of her smaller details near the belt (grenades, the rosary etc), which put me off finishing her for quite a while.

Recently decided to try and finish her:

Went with order of the Argent Shroud for my colour scheme. Fairly happy with how most of her turned out, even though I have no idea how to do her sleeves or cloth in general. Also, holy Emperor, I won't ever complain about it being hard to paint marine faces again. They're positively enormous compared to how small hers was.

Darn it Reinhard, it wasn't enough to keep making my Templars look bad, now you gonna do my Argent Shroud like that too? :tongue.:

They're, like, the same color scheme. Wouldn't making one bad translate to making the other one look bad too?

I mean, his Templars have made my Templars look so badly painted by comparison for years over at the BT subforum, and now his AS sister does that to my AS sisters. Of course given he's the better painter that does indeed translate over :P

So, it was actually almost 2 years ago since I first painted Sister superior Amalia Novena here... and well... when all was said and done, turns out I wasn't really happy with her overall, between the botched assembly resulting in glue damage, my inability to do her face justice and generally not managing a good rendition of the argent shroud scheme. Because of this, I lost enthusiasm for the project that was meant to be the starting point for an allied force of sisters for my Templars. Seems the old image is gone too.

At any rate, sisters have come out even more in force since and still has probably the best looking army in 40k, period.

With my pious marines in black just beyond the horizon, I needed something to focus my zeal on, so I went for another shake on that very same miniature that stopped my enthusiasm dead nearly 2 years ago.

This time I figured I'd swap the color scheme to that of the sacred rose. The white should contrast nicely with the black of my templars, and the two forces would still share the same 3 main colors: black, white and red. I wanted to do argent shroud for lore reasons (Armageddon, Templars, Helsreach and all that) but the galaxy is a big place, and I'll think these'll look better together.

So here's take two of the sister suprerior:

Still a work in progress, but one I feel a lot better about. And I'll forgive anyone for not remembering what the original looked like, I'll maybe do a side by side once I finish her up completely.

...

Have to say I was once again taken aback by how tiny a sister model is, though I do have better brushes now.

  • 3 months later...

So I went for another whole entire sister model. I was actually gearing up for making a whole squad (still am) but this little once in a 2 decade update of my main army (Black Templars) just occured, so I got mightily side tracked.

Still, I did manage to track down a still decently price Tariana Palos, so that's my #2. White armor is still tricky. Tiny Sister heads are tiny. Details so smol. Space marines have spoiled me.

Side by side. Amalia has much more stature due to the base

Here's to hoping next update will be a squad. And not too far down the line. I have a fair bit of swordbrethren to chug through before I revisit sisters again though.

  • 5 months later...

Another six months, another sister painted. Still plonking away at my Templars, but most of that is now behind me rather than in front.

I'll get to my sister squad, eventually

It's a recurring issue of mine. I need a better photo setup. I've plans to that end, after which I feel I should pretty much reshoot everything I have. (not just the three models posted here :P)

I know the feeling. I've been meaning to have a more permanent photo setup for almost 10 years now (when I started) but noooope, never happens :) I reckon white models definitely  aren't the easiest to take photos of, just like they aren't the easiest to paint either. Thank goodness I had the sense to go "DIY" on my plastic Sisters. The white cloth exteriors on Argent Shroud were too much already ;) Of course, the headache still awaits whenever I actually properly start painting my BT Primaris models.
