Brothers,

It is my pride and joy to say that I've restarted a crusade. One that started in the depths of time on the sandy battlefields of Armageddon, when one of my best friends took a plunge into the Black Templars. Sadly, he had to let his army go when going to college.

As a tribute to him (and because I was looking for an excuse to paint some primaris), I am in the process of reestablishing a crusading force.

Without further ado, I'd like to introduce you to the first finished miniatures I have.
At this moment I have a marshall in gravis armor, a sword brother with thunderhammer (which'll be pictured below) and a squad of 6 reivers (including a converted sword brother) awaiting a glorious black paintjob (or the equivalent thing I can offer them).

So we have:

Castellan with relic/power sword:

My first finished intercessors (more have been painted since taking this picture), together with characters:

My SB to go with the intercessors:

I'll take the next few pictures when the SB is finished. I am quite the slow painter (though I finish a model per session, I tend to have long pauses between paintingsessions), so it may take some time.

In the meantime, any CC is greatly appreciated.

Nice! Good job on them. Where did you get the standard bearer's shoulder pads and the castellan's shoulder shield/crest?

Cheers!

The shield (blank one from the intercessor kit) has the same cross on it as the shoulder pads.

It's a small etched brass kit I picked up on ebay which has some 70-ish small and a selection of medium and large crosses. The banner, for example, has a medium sized cross on it.

If it's not against the rules of the forum, here's a link:

Cheers for the feedback brothers!
I was able to rehost my pictures to get rid of that ugly watermark...

Welcome back to the crusade!

Just gotta say I love your highlighting, what paints do you use on it? I will also be looking forward to your progress.

Spraycan black
Thin brushed coat of chaos black

Vallejo heavy charcoal (gamecolor)

GW stormvermin fur

Vallejo stonewall grey (gamecolor)

the white details: stonewall, nuln oil, stonewall highlight, white highlight

To limit my urge to splurge, I also made an army-/shoppinglist.

I’d like to run the list by you guys again here, since the topic I made in the armylistsection has gotten no replies so far.

detachment 1: 8CP / battalion

Captain in gravis armor

- warlord

- Iron Resolve

- Reliquary of Gathalmor

Chaplain ven. dreadnought

- twin lascannon and cc-weapon

- litany of hate & canticle of hate

Intercessor squad 1 (6 intercessors)

- bolt rifles

- thunder hammer for sergeant

Intercessor squad 2 (5 intercessors)

- bolt rifles

- power sword for sergeant

Intercessor squad 3 (5 intercessors)

- bolt rifles

- power sword for sergeant

Agressor Squad

- boltstorm gauntlets

Primaris Ancient

Primaris Apothecary

Eliminators

- las fusils

- bolt carbine for sergeant

Impulsor

- heavy stubber

- shield dome

detachment 2: -1CP / vanguard

Lieutenant

- Hero of the chapter

- Champion of Humanity

- The Burning Blade

Invictor

- incendium cannon

Invictor

- incendium cannon

Reivers (6 reivers)

- grav chutes

- grapnel launcher

- knife & pistol

Invictors take the midfield, while intercessor 1 rides up in an impulsor to claim midfield objective.

Intercessor 2 & 3 hang back near objectives, together with eliminators. Agressors + chaplain, apothecary, ancient and captain move towards enemy. Reivers deepstrike where necessity dictates.

Any thoughts or comments?

Aye, I can see two good options - Either slap it on the captain to defend the main battleline against an enemy alpha strike, or give it to a Phobos Lieutenant (concealed positions) to hand the Invictors + the Impulsor riding down the field, to have a well-protected distraction on the first turn.

Also, your black paintjob is an absolute marvel to my eyes, but I didn't quite understand the list of colors you used. Do you layer multiple dark colors on the models as the basecoat?

Edited by Palmu

No, I put chaos black (from a pot) over my basecoat chaos black (from a spraycan).

I do this for two reasons:

A- it deepens/enriches the color

B- there’s a difference in hues between can and pot. Because I have to do an occasional touch-up here and there while highlighting, I want the touched-up part to have the same hue as the rest of the model.

From there I start edgehighlighting with the darkest grey, ending with the lightest grey.

Why on a phobos character? Where in the battleline would you place him?

Couldn’t I just slap it on my captain for maximum effect on my main assault force?

as close as possible to the enemy.  I already posted my next tournament list (not ITC)  in the thread about BT Primaris.

It is indeed quite a strong relic, though the 3” range hampers the deployment options for my warsuits if it is to be placed on a phobos character. On the other hand, with their 10” move and deployed near the center of the board, that’s quite the threat to my opponent’s forces.

The impulsor already has a 4++. So I’m asking my opponent to focus fire on my aggressors, who have a medic nearby and can hide behind behind the impulsor if needs be.

Do I declare the use of a relic at the start of a turn, even if my opponent gets to go first?

EDIT: just read that only the phobos captain gets concealed deployment. That’s a 100pts tax to get the relic upfield.

You can use it at the opponent 1st turn since the wording is " At the beginning of the battle round". So it doesn't matter which one start ^^.

You can also use the litanie that give us a 5+++ for your agressor at the beginning ^^.

It is not the best SM supplement, but we have some protection to arrive alive in close combat.

Right now I’m considering, and it’s just a small adjustment to the list, to drop champion of humanity on the lieutenant and get the DtW trait on the chaplain, buy an extra relic for the captain or standard bearer (the 4++ one) and, if still allowed, give the captain the +CP trait from the Fist supplement.

Or is that putting too many eggs in one basket?

If I ever get to 2k points, I’ll be adding incursors and a captain to carry the 4++ around.

I’ve finished my first five intercessors... they’re now awaiting their assigned sword brother to lead them to glory.
The picture is not the best, due to it being dark early, but if I get home early enough one of these days, I’ll take a better one.

As always, feedback is appreciated.

He's been finished for some time now, but I always forgot to upload him...
Without further ado, here's my captain in gravis armor
