Special Officer Doofy
Just a question about the 2nd edition chaos codex, which came out in 1996 (when I was only 6). On the wiki/lexicanum it says the codex covered four Daemon Princes, Doombreed (Khorne), N'Kari (Slaanesh), Foulspawn (Nurgle) and M'Kachan (Tzeentch). Did they not have models or were the original "Greater Daemon" models their original models? I sometimes get bored at work and look up old models because they look cool and it's fun to see how the hobby/models have evolved. Trying to stay positive in a hobby that's draining my will currently. MaliGn
I think there *might* have been models for two of them - the slaanesh and tzeentch ones ring a bell. Slave to Darkness
They were 'flavour' rules to show you what God aligned princes were like. The only named DP at the time was Azazel, though I think he may have came later and he was a fantasy character. The first DP mini was a generic Prince with head options. http://www.coolminiornot.com/pics/pics16/img5111aaf9b2721.jpg Special Officer Doofy and N1SB 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360136-old-daemon-princes-2nd-ed/#findComment-5433774 Share on other sites
Special Officer Doofy
Sweet thanks for the answers and pictures! As I read about them I saw foulspawn's description mentioned a froglike tongue, like the old great unclean one, and that the slaanesh and tzeentch ones are also mentioned later as a keeper of secrets and lord of change as well. I didn't know if perhaps that's where the greater daemons came from. Closet Skeleton
M'Kachan is a Lord of Change who became a daemon prince, N'kari is a former mortal turned daemon prince whose sometimes a keeper of secrets depending on the source so that's more of a canon conflict. N'kari was also a major character in the High Elf lore from Wahammer fantasy where she was a Keeper of Secrets. Greater Daemons are Greater Daemons in the 2nd ed codex but there's no model of them shown so I guess they were fantasy releases (as were the two daemon princes above, though the generic one is in the 3rd ed chaos codex along with the fantasy greater daemons). All had first ed models though. Doombreed has a rod and axe as equipment, N'kari just has a rod. Foulspawn just has his chaos spawn tentacles. So you could use a Lord of Change model for M'Kachan but there's no model that matches the equipment of the other three. First 40k daemon prince models were the epic scale daemon primarchs. They were 'flavour' rules to show you what God aligned princes were like. The only named DP at the time was Azazel, though I think he may have came later and he was a fantasy character. There were two named daemon princes for 5th edition fantasy, both Slaanesh and both had models. The other was Dechela the denied one who was really small for a daemon prince. First 40k scale daemon prince was another slaanesh special character of smaller stature, Doomrider. Celtic_cauldron
M'Kachan is definitively a Lord of Change, not a Prince. It is known as being Stern's Nemesis.
