Beatnik cryptek Posted November 27, 2019 Share Posted November 27, 2019 Once a dreaded symbol of necron might, the monolith was all but beaten out of the necron arsenal by the 8e nerf bat GW took to it. I honestly hardly ever see necron monoliths used now. They're so huge you practically have to build a building just to cover them unlike a lot if tanks that can take cover behind many ordinary ruins. Their range is no greater than a standard infantry assault weapon. They defensive stats don't guvem a hope in hell if surviving more than a couple turns on the tabletop. They are easilky killed before they get into effective range unless they deep strike. The fact that almost no one uses monoliths anymore shows they're a weak unit, who needs to be done to get them off the shelf again? Firat off some better defenses. Quantum shielding nay be too much unless a monolith is going to be very expensive. But a 3+/5++ save might reasonable especially if a monoliths armor ignored the first point of AP. Hey, space marine salamanders have a similar rule, I see no reason why a nonolith can't have this. Secondly when you're routinely being targeted by several dam d6 weapons the monolith's livibg metal one point of regeneration is useless. For a monolith regen to be of any use it should roll 2d3 and take the higgest one. Even this is likely to be if little real use. Continue later rlp is here. OK I'm back. Offensively, it's basic infantry weapon range just does not do it. It can be killed by a land raider before it gets close enough to fire back. 24" does not make it vibale as a combat vehicle. The particle whip needs lobger range, at least twice it's current range. A 48" range would make it competitive with spess muhreen tanks arned with lascannon. And yes I want a necron arny that has a real chance against spess muhreens. Lastly I'd like to see the monolith buff necrons a little. Nothing major guys. Maybe just a blanket reroll wound rolls of 1 in the shooting phase for necron infantry near it as it slightly boosts the weapons energy levels. BaconCouch Posted November 28, 2019 Share Posted November 28, 2019 One of the most neat ideas I heard was making the monolith 2+/5++, T9, and then having it roll a d6 for each wound missing. On a it regains a wound per 6 rolled. Then, just make the particle whip flat 3 damage, and 36 inch range, fix the portal.
