We don't actually know if it is a transport though, do we?

We do.

WHC article:

This archaic-looking aircraft can be assembled in one of three patterns – a gunship, bomber or transport variant – and will provide your Adeptus Mechanicus forces with a suite of new tactical options.

I don't know why but I like the idea of a bomber in my AdMech.

That said most bombers in the game aren't that great, or they are a one hit wonder.

What I'd really like to see is some sort of jamming tech or anti-aura. Something that really defines this flyer as Admech.

I agree, it's appropriate for a faction infamous for its ruthlessness (in seizing and hoarding technology and technical information), one easily able to match the Inquisition.

Games Workshop tends to forget war has progressed beyond 1917. The Imperium should let its bombers serve the way ours do, i.e., as cruise missile carriers, lobbing a relatively small number of long Range, high Strength munitions at a target from beyond the reach of the target's surface-based air defense.

Great idea!

Bjorn, it has advanced beyond 1917, to return to almost exactly war in 1917!

The battlefields are horrendous maelstroms of destruction where lines of imperial guard march forward to be gunned down by shuriken, bolter, plasma, and ... worse.

I think that's the thing with 40K. We've got all this technology yet fight the same bloody battles, the same way.

I love the look of the flyer, I hope it does't disappoint.
