jgascoine011
Well with the new CA there was some insane points drops. Things like obliterators going down by 20ppm is pretty insane as they were already really good. With PA as well there is some decent strats to make a semi-competitve night lords army. Night Lords - Batallion +5CP HQ Chaos Sorcerer in Terminator Armour - Combi-Bolter - Force Stave - Mark of Nurgle - Presience + Miasma Dark Apostle - Accursed Crozius - Benidictions Elites 2 Dark Diciples Troops 3 x 10 Cultists Heavy Support 5 Havocs - 4 Lascannons - Mark of Slaanesh 3 Obliterators Flyer Fire Raptor - Twin Boltcannon - 2 Quad Heavy Bolters - 2 Twin Lascannons - Mark of Nurgle This thing is wayyyy to expensive by about 100 points. Was really hoping for point drop as then i could have dropped the havocs and taken 2 decimators with twin butcher cannons...oh well. I need it to clear out some chaff for the raptors & warptalons to come in. With benidictions + miasma its -3 to hit looool....good luck guardsmen. Night Lords - Battalion (+5CP) - Host Raptoral (-1CP) HQ Chaos Lord - Jump Pack - Twin Lightning Claws - Relic: Claws of the Black Hunt - WLT: Killing Fury With 7-9 attacks on the charge, he is a pretty good blender Chaos Lord - Jump Pack - Power Weapon - Relic: Flayer - WLT: Tip of the Claw (-1 CP) Troops 3 x 10 Cultists Fast Attack 2 x 8 Waptalons - Twin Lightning Claws 9 Raptors - 3 Melta Guns - Mark of Khorne - Icon of Wrath I frigging hate cultists but god they are so cheap. Replacing them with CSM would cost me 90pts and would probably be worse. I did the maths and deepstriking the obliterators, raptors, warptalons and 2 characters would just be me under 1k for reserve points. Turn 2 the obliterators, and raptors would come in, maybe along with 1 unit of warptalons and the tip of the claw lord. Turn 3 the other unit of warptalons comes in. I could swap out the fire raptor for a Kytan but it would not be as fluffy. It would give me some hard hitting combat, however i just think it would die pretty easily :/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360240-2k-fluffly-nl/ Share on other sites
Brom MKIV
Cool list. Agree on cultists although 56 pt csm with chainswords and a chainaxe might be ok for later game cleanup. Definitely keep the raptor such a badass model/unit. Wish I didn't sell mine now. Anyway I'd probably replace those havocs with something else though.. maybe a contemptor or 2 if you can fit them. More durable and in theme. Otherwise I like the concept. Consider the daemon claws for the other lord though. I use them and they kick ass. Although already on the final turn of a recent game I ran out of CP and sure enough.. 1. Didn't matter by then anyway but it was funny since he was assaulting a blood slaughterer. jgascoine011
I had a wee think. If i was going to be more competitve I could drop the raptor for: 2 Contemptors with dual butcher cannons 10 Terminators with 1 chain axe, 9 power fists and 10 combi-bolters With benidictions, the stratagem and the psychic power I could make the terminators -3 to hit lol. Also with the other NL strat i can get another +1 to hit if needed. That is 40 S4 shots and 28 S8 D3 damage attacks hitting on 2s for dealing with chaff and combat units If i wanted to be suuuuper competitve I could make the 1st batallion alpha legion. Dropping the contemptors could get 5 havocs with lascannons and change the combi-bolters to combi-plasma. With the alpha legion strat the havocs could not be targeted and the terminators would still be -3 to hit (-2 if i dont go 1st). This would give me some protection against 1st turn alpha strike. Then in my turn teleport the terminators, cast presience and miasma on them for 20 shots at S8 AP-3 D2. I think with presience on you cant kill yourself with a roll of a 1. Then shoot twice with the lascannons...if i go with devistation battery i can shoot 3 times with re-rolling 1s to wound. It is very CP heavy. With regards to the daemon weapon, you are probably right but I want to use some FW models. Sevetar will be the second lord with his back pack replaced with a jump pack. The relic best fits his weapon. Also fluff and points lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360240-2k-fluffly-nl/#findComment-5438314 Share on other sites
Brom MKIV
Haha what your describing is similar to what I've been running in much of 8th, its solid but I wouldn't call it super competitive. Your plan relies more heavily on psych for protection though. A rhino deployed out of los for those havocs for example would protect them just fine after which they can disembark and double tap followed up by the oblits. I agree its good to have a backup/alternate to cacophony but I'd leave the fists off. If anything just take a few chainfists for insurance. If going with termies + oblits consider giving them icon of vengeance for +1 Ld. Now prey on the weak becomes a reliable prescience to avoid overheats. Prescience and lord rerolls work too obviously but you'll want those for the oblits so this would double down on prescience while forgoing the option to cacophony that unit. Fair enough on jago. My thoughts on the power fists were insurance vs a close combat monster. Someone charges up 3 disco lords up the field, i can counter them with 25 S8 DD3 attacks, possibly hitting on 2s. Brom MKIV
It could happen. I think most often you'll wish they were cheaper when they die or it just doesn't do enough for their cost over chainaxes. Its actually the change to chainaxes and pts reduction that made our tda kinda worthwhile since they can focus on shooting and have some 'ablative' terminators lol. Loyalists are still stuck with fists and they wish they had the chainaxe option.
