dusara217
I'm currently in the process of home-brewing a Space Marine Chapter based around the Knights of Malta and was hoping I could get some advise as to how to model them so that they look properly knight-like. What sorts of paints would draw out the classic steel plate look? I currently have Mechanicum grey and leadbelcher, but I'm not sure what other forms of grey / silver would be necessary to create the desired effect. Dark Angel and Black Templar bits both seem like they would be good for highlighting the knight look, but are there any specific kits or Marks of Power Armour I could use to enhance the effect? Gederas
Iron Hands steel is a nice, bright steel. Grey Knights steel is perfect for a more blueish steel colour. And for Knightly looking marks.... Mark II and Mark III helmets are your best bet. Mark II/III looks like a "modern" Greathelm. Also, I'll pick up those paints and see which one I like more. Thanks for the reply! Fajita Fan
Just get Grey Knights and shave off the =I= icons? Maybe a mix of GK and DA so you can mix and match them? Plenty of guns, halberds and swords between those kits. The contrast paints make really good armor washes when you thin them heavily with medium. Ciler
Mark III armor is perhaps the marine armor variant that looks the most knightly and the less futuristic. Rik Lightstar
Puppetswar do some great heads for this kinda thing: https://puppetswar.eu/models-and-bits-49/all-bits/heads/high-crusader-helmets.html https://puppetswar.eu/models-and-bits-49/all-bits/heads/hooded-crusader-helmets.html https://puppetswar.eu/models-and-bits-49/all-bits/heads/paladin-helmets.html https://puppetswar.eu/models-and-bits-49/all-bits/heads/knight-helmets.html Just as some suggestions. For painting your silver armour, Darren Latham has a video on YouTube about his Silver Skulls marine army, and that should give you all the help you need.
