I want to know what people do for sacred rites and how they rate them.

Currently I am feeling like spirit of the martyr is far and above the best one and am considering just taking it every time instead of taking two randoms. What does everyone else plan on doing and how do you rank the tires?

Best:spirit of the martyr. Hands down gets you kills each game. And when you get extra melta shots things are going good.

I think Divine guidance, the passion and aegis of the emperor all seem alright, probably ranked guidance, aegis, passion but if I start using more repentia and avoid arcos then maybe passion moves up. I think I would rather have spirit more than even two of those. If I have two if these I lament not getting spirit, but end up keeping them because it seems like I would pay a command point to make my army worse.

Hand if the emperor seems on the lower end, but can do some nice things in the right situation. Still if I got that I would likely go for a roll on it for something better more than half the time.

Worst:light if the emperor...I play devout serenity which really letters the value of this one. Reroll this rite 100% of the time.

So the follow up is how often do you think about selecting one of the Rites instead of getting to randoms, and if you take two randoms how often are you using command points to re roll for something better?

It depends on the type of list you are playing. I'll always go with Spirit of the Martyr for my standard shooty sisters list. It's just really damn good. The only time I'd take divine guidance over SotM is on a Bolter spam lists.

For a bloody rose melee list, I'd go hand of the emperor. +1 to advance and charge really helps a melee list. Less failed charges and getting up the board faster are all positives. The passion is nice but Repentia tend to chew through everything they touch anyways so I feel like helping them tag stuff helps a lot more than making them extra killy.

Aegis is amazing too but I'd only take it against armies with 4+ witches. Against 1-2, SotM will be preferable.

I don't see myself ever using Light. It's just not great.

I like the passion for bloody rose. I am sure it's not the best, but it should make our Canoness armed with Beneficence and the reroll wounds and charges warlord trait a wrecking ball, which is why I am calling mine Mileia San Cyrus.

She should easily take out a 5 man intercessor squad by herself, and put a huge hurting on a 10 man squad, and that's without getting into dropping miracle dice on her to hits (each 6 you spend is a hit plus a likely second hut, most kf which should wound, and with ap-3, do 2 damage).

She should be vicious enough to hurt other characters pretty good too, and if she attracts sniper (kellermorph) fire, I will ditch miracle dice to resurrect her, or to keep her invulnerable save from failing.

And the passion+Imagifier(+1 Str)+priest on a few squads of Celestians sounds like fun, if not the greatest.

I tend to rank them:

1) Divine Guidance

2) Hand of the Emperor

3) Spirit of the Martyr

4) The Passion

5) Light of the Emperor

*) Aegis of the Emperor

Their values can rise and fall depending on Conviction (like Bloody Rose and Argent Shroud will obviously favor Hand of the Emperor).

The reason I don't rate Spirit of the Martyr higher is that most of the time it will just be extra boltgun shots, and in mass those are good... but onesy-twosy not so much.  What Divine Guidance does is allow you some measure of -1AP boltgun shots in mass shots, and occasionally gets things like Exorcists up to -4 again, which is normally good enough to strip normal vehicles of any armor saves... Exorcists also have a decent volley of shots to make use of, too.

Aegis of the Emperor gets a special place because in many matches it has no value, but in specific matches it is head-and-shoulders towering over the other ones (especially if you bring a Canoness with a Brazier of Holy Flame that can be spot upgraded to Eternal Flame as the matchup dictates).

So Hand of the Emperor is good for choppy/mobile army. You can buy the ability for Tzaangors in a TS army, and it is an auto-include, but SoB certainly situational depending on your build.

Spirit of the Martyr: for an army whose weapons generally dont go beyond 24-36 inches it is a waste.

Aegis of the Emperor: Against certain armies this is great seeing as almost every unit can try and deny, for certain Canoness you can really shut down psykers. Though it requires very specific units, relics etc to be truly effective. Good but situational.

Divine Guidance: for you Valrous Heart castles this is the choice or still good with Exorcists. I would say this is the go to if you dont have something specific in mind.

The Passion: With a choppy way I think this is a good choice, but I'm not sure you really want sisters in combat.

Light of the Emperor: hard pass, it's too easily made obsolete in the army design phase.

What I do like about these is it rewards those people who want a pure build, but not so good that it is punishing to a soup player.
