I am looking for some input on what type of KT campaigns players have participated in. I have participated a few KT campaign, but i am somewhat feel like a newb.

I have some questions below.

Q. Would a mini map of a city with predefined terrain feature work in kill team? The missions would be randomized, but the kill team battlefield affect would be static.

Q. What type of KT campaign have most people found easy to run for a small group of people 5-8?

Q. Do most players play with scouting rules or not in KT campaign?

Q. General statement. What works and does not work in a KT campaign?

I'm running one right now so will try to help out, but it's my first campaign I'm running, and it's only with one other player.

1) I imagine that a map-based system would work well, but if you have 5-8 people it's going to have to be pretty big for players not to be taken out in their first few games. Would you use the map to show territory control, or to position where events are happening and not make it relevant to the events/status of the campaign?

2) The campaign I'm running is narrative. I think that narrative campaigns would potentially be easier to keep everyone engaged and involved with. Alternatively, KT games are designed for 2-4 players - so what would the other players do? You may want to think about dividing the players into teams where they can potentially rotate who plays games, if needed.

3) In the campaign I'm playing we haven't used the scouting rules. Although that is also because I haven't wanted to overwhelm the new player I'm playing with.

4) I don't have enough experience to comment on this, but I'm checking in with my player about what interests him about the narrative, what he wants to explore more, and feeding him 'status reports' from NPC's in the game. I'm also forcing him to choose between missions (ie - after one game he lost where a Hive city was threatened with an assault, he had to choose where to deploy his squad next to either (a) raid the beseiging chaos forces to delay/weaken their attack on the Hive, {b} investigate a report of psyker activity behind enemy lines, or © deploy offworld to answer distress signals from a mining colony in the system. All of the missions tie into different narrative threads that will come together. This kind of campaign setup might be easier only because I have one player though.

The Urban Conquest box was expensive for most people, but it was a great resources for campaign designers.

Their streets of death campaign system works for Kill Team, 40k and Apocalypse, though a bit of tweeking goes a long way. It comes with a sleeve that allows you to slot territory, army/ charcter/ detachment/ kill team cards into a 5 x 5 map/ grid. Now I found KT's post battle sequence to be a little light and abstract; I prefer something detailed like necromunda, where territories can confer game effects, and there's a trading post, etc. I have the same complaint about Urban Conquest. So I invented a bunch of stuff to fill in the gaps.

Still, the card sleeve array is BRILLIANT for tracking the locations of all of the stuff in your campaign. What I ultimately ended up doing was creating a 5 x 5 array of digital folders on my computer because then I could keep my data cards as spreadsheets or word docs, so that the physical size of cards and pockets was no longer a concern. There are other cool things in the book too; one of the concepts they introduce is the "Key Building Stratagem" - as the name implies, it's a stratagem you can only use if you have a unit that is currently controlling the key building. These key buildings only exist in special territories, which also have special missions.

Anyway, I think the hobby is at its best when it's played escalation style. Growing a kill team into an apocalypse army via campaign play over a period of years, in my mind is as good as the game gets.

I've posted scraps of this campaign all over the place- the faction specific threads for any faction involved. I also regularly splatter Dakka Dakka with campaign propaganda, but B&C is a WAY better place to organize this stuff. Today I just learned about how the "special projects" forums work, and I think I'm going to contact the Admins to see if I can set something up.

Keep an eye out for Saint Katherine's Aegis.
