Tzen
Back when I was a kid, my first ever army was Blood Angels. I had a very weird army, made up of the models from Space Crusade, and the odd metal miniature I managed to get my hands on. Back then, 2nd Edition 40k saw the Blood Angels be the "poster boys" of the game, and everyone ran them. So I decided to go as the slightly under used chapter called Ultramarines.... Now as we all know, the Ultramarines have very much taken centre stage, but when Mephiston was released in full Primaris glory, the kid in me really wanted to paint it. So I did! http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/meph1.jpg http://www.golden-throne.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/meph2.jpg This was a really great model to paint, and whilst some of the details on him could do with a little extra work, I am happy with the result. ranulf the revenant
It's a very cool paintjob obviously, I always love your stuff. One thing I would maybe tweak slightly would be the hair colour. It's very strikingly yellow which fits in with an old school look, but also looks a bit like... spaghetti (excuse me, it was just the first thing that came to mind). I think making the blond more pale would work quite well with the face as well... Anyway, it's a cool Mephiston Malcrolio and Tzen 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360751-mephiston-lord-of-death/#findComment-5451131 Share on other sites
Tzen
Yeah, I may return to the hair. I thought I would generally go off the official colour scheme, but I am not sure I like it. I actually think he would really suit black hair. :/ ranulf the revenant 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360751-mephiston-lord-of-death/#findComment-5451134 Share on other sites
Bjorn Firewalker
Why is his right arm posed like that? Imitating Bruce Lee as he thumbs his nose in contempt towards a recently defeated enemy, to show wiping out the latter took no more effort than wiping snot from his face? ranulf the revenant
It's a regular option in the model. I think he's supposed to wipe Blood from his mouth. Tzen
That's right, meant to be blood from his mouth. But I quite like the idea of snot too :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360751-mephiston-lord-of-death/#findComment-5451602 Share on other sites
Fajita Fan
Why is his right arm posed like that? Imitating Bruce Lee as he thumbs his nose in contempt towards a recently defeated enemy, to show wiping out the latter took no more effort than wiping snot from his face? I've had a small BA primaris army primed and ready for paint in a box for a year now so I just order my Mephiston this morning to go with them. Looking at the model this morning I saw this alternate hand for the first time and went "WTH is he doing?" That's a great paintjob and I like that the armor is a different shade than the robes but yes, the hair seems off unless that's just the picture. I'm considering offwhite for mine like Geralt the Witcher. ranulf the revenant
That's right, meant to be blood from his mouth. But I quite like the idea of snot too :D There's a whole range of uncharted possibilities when it comes to 'models doing disgusting things'. How about blocking one of their nostrils to clear the other one like a European football player or hand in your crotch while spitting tobacco á la Baseball Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360751-mephiston-lord-of-death/#findComment-5451734 Share on other sites

Mostwanted
Great job on Mephiston. He's really well done and I really like the gold detailing on the black robe, which I imagine is quite hard to keep neat. What colours did you use for the darker red robe? Vyrullax
I love your style of painting and i agree blackish or dark blue hair would work better with this model. The hair kinda feels like noodles when done in yellow/orange tones. But I love the darker skin tone you gave him Tzen 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360751-mephiston-lord-of-death/#findComment-5456769 Share on other sites
Tzen
Thanks chaps, glad you like. I may paint this chap again at some point, maybe go with an overall more sinister tone. It's a genuinely brilliant model. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360751-mephiston-lord-of-death/#findComment-5456802 Share on other sites
