War Angel
Good afternoon everyone, The other night I painted a test model for my guard, and then finished the squad. Plus the company commander. Can’t have a company without a commander. Or a plt.... crap, I need two plt’s for a company and two squads for a platoon minimum. Not the point. So here they are, what do you guys think? I still haven’t finished the lasguns and the bases. I have two questions for you seasoned veterans who have survived 14 minutes in the guard. First, I currently have 38 infantrymen, with 3 squad leaders, 3 vox casters, 3 plasma guns, and a grenade launcher(the rest are lasguns). two company commanders, and a weapons team with three mortars. This is almost 300 points. Not enough to play with in any capacity. Should I buy more now, long before I plan to finish what I currently have? Or should I wait. I don’t plan on getting any tanks, this will be pure bodies. As captain zap brannigan said, “I’ll bravely send wave after wave of my own men to their deaths to win the war”. Second question. Looking at a mordern theme, how should I do the las guns. New question, I wanna do red plasma coils. Does anyone know a recipe for that? 4ndroid, duz_, Hannibal and 6 others 9 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360806-quantico-75th-riflemen/ Share on other sites
holydiver
Looks nice and clean. Is that just contrast paints? A simple shade and drybrush, and picking out the aquilas and the sergeant's chevrons would do wonders imho. I like the camo. You have some frosting in the recesses like on the boots, you can just wet that down with regular water and let it dry to fix it.I think black with metal would look good on the weapons. Red is traditional but wouldn't work with red plasma. Maybe olive drab? Personally, I would go with black weapons and then work in olive drab as a tertiary color like you see on troops deployed in the Middle East, maybe on backpacks and random armor sections to look like they've had to resupply and didn't have the right camo scheme available. War Angel
Looks quite Iraq-War/ Desert Storm to me, but it works. Yeah, I wanted digital, but it just didn’t work out that way. I’ll stick with this, it’s a lot easier. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360806-quantico-75th-riflemen/#findComment-5452308 Share on other sites
Bjorn Firewalker
I like the guardsmen's camouflage pattern. Excellent work. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360806-quantico-75th-riflemen/#findComment-5452324 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Always good to see another camouflage scheme, it works nicely for a desert theme :) For the guns a black or very dark grey would work best I think, but all metal should also be fine. If you want a more modern look to them, a Leadbelcher followed by a few coats of black wash should give a nice gun metal look without much work :tu: If you don't want any tanks then you're definitely going to need a lot more troops  It's always best to finish what you have before getting more, though most of us struggle here ;) When you say "tanks" do you mean Russes or all armour so no artillery? Tanks are hard to pass up for Guard as they are good and do most of the heavy lifting in a list, they'd also look great in your colour scheme so another reason to work in batches in case you change your mind... :P holydiver 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360806-quantico-75th-riflemen/#findComment-5452326 Share on other sites

Fajita Fan
The plasma looks good! Is that as in Quantico, VA marine base? And...why don't you want any vehicles...? War Angel
The plasma looks good! Is that as in Quantico, VA marine base? And...why don't you want any vehicles...? It is, and because I want to just have a whole swarm of guard. Two hundred plus guard. I don’t yet know how I will distinguish veterans from regulars, but I’ll burn that bridge when I get to it. Thanks, I wasn’t sure about it to be honest. I was really thinking lightsaber red. Mordian Glory
Looking great! Really like the scheme and the army style I like the plasma, I think it looks pretty unique. If you wanted to go for a more lightsabre red I could recommend going for Mephiston Red and then wash with Carroburg Crimson. It wont "glow" but should still look good. For the guns you could go for a black body, with silver barrel, magazine, grip and stock. Then do the symbol gold. I had that on my old paint scheme and it looked fine. WarriorFish
Always good to see the first squad come together, they look great :tu: Now to keep the others coming... ;) After a couple more squads it'd be good to keep your painting queue fresh every so often, add in something different so you don't get burnt out on the rank and file. HQs, HWTs and of course auxiliaries if you want something really different :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360806-quantico-75th-riflemen/#findComment-5455186 Share on other sites

Mordian Glory
They look fantastic, really good effort. My only tiny recommendation would be to maybe do something with the emblems, the skull and wing on the guns+helmet and the chest aquila. Maybe go for a dark gold and then wash with nuln oil to dim it further. However I know you are going for a realistic colour scheme so it may not be appropriate :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360806-quantico-75th-riflemen/#findComment-5455565 Share on other sites
War Angel
Thanks for the suggestion mordian glory, I think I’ll finish a few squads and crank them all out at once that way I’m not opening the pot for such a small amount of paint. And it will be nice and uniformed. This scheme is actually so much easier to paint than my Marines. With the red trims and white gloves and belts and hands, blue the gold all over the place, and painting the we lense three times. These guys are cake by comparison. I just knocked out a mortar team in 4 days, just 10 hours. Here’s some pictures And an army shot Don’t expect an update for a bit, to keep myself from burning out im going to switch between these guys and Marines, so next will be a redemptor and then I’ll come back and do another guard squad. 254 more to go holydiver, duz_, walter h and 4 others 7 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/360806-quantico-75th-riflemen/#findComment-5455725 Share on other sites

Bjorn Firewalker
You're a skilled painter, but why are the guardsmen wearing desert camouflage in an urban environment, as their bases suggest? They stand out a lot, which is practically begging for an enemy sniper to ventilate them.
